I bought this as i have suffered with bleeding gums in the past and I have heard bad things about other mouthwashes specialised for gums (Corsodyl!) as they stained my friend's teeth.
My teeth are white it's just that my gums are really red! So I decided to pick up this when I saw it on the shelf and this is my review of Colgate Total Pro Gum Health.
First of all the mouthwash is bright purple which I find off putting. The taste is minty. Unlike alcohol based mouthwashes this doesn't give me cottonmouth.
The cap is a bit strange to pour into as it has two segments an inner hole and an outer hole and if you spill into the outer hole you *will* get mouthwash all down your freshly ironed work blouse!
I found this pleasant to swish around my mouth though I do not gargle and it did make my mouth feel fresh and my breath smell minty. However I don't feel it had much of an impact on my bleeding gums as they were still red and angry looking. So this is OK for a normal everyday mouthwash but not for people with bleeding gums unfortunately.
It's around £4.50 from chemists and supermarkets but I wouldn't rush out to buy it if you have sore gums.
Colgate Total Pro Gum Health
My teeth are not very good and need a lot of TLC to ensure that they will last me throughout my years left on this earth. The thought of false teeth scares me so I brush my teeth at least twice a day, rinse with a good mouth wash and visit my dentist every six months to have a very unpleasant scrape and polish.
The last mouth wash I used was this and as I finished the bottle I thought I would write what I thought of it.
This is not the cheapest mouth wash by a long way but that is because it actually does things apart from freshen your breath for five minutes.
This mouth wash kills harmful bacteria which are a major cause of gum disease. Gum disease can cause your teeth to fall out and also bad breathe so neither is desirable. This also helps to protect from cavities and plaque build up as well as strengthening enamel and freshening your breath.
On the bottle it suggest using this twice daily. I tend to use it after I have cleaned my teeth to make sure that I have lasting protection for longer.
This is alcohol free which is better for your teeth. Using this helps to stop your gums bleeding and becoming inflamed and painful which they can become if bacteria and plaque build u and this is the first warning of gum disease.
The instructions say to use two capfuls of mouth wash for your rinse after cleaning your teeth. I have to say I use less than a capful and find that plenty. Swish it around all your mouth and through your teeth and give a gargle . Keep this in your mouth moving round for at least thirty seconds to be effective. Do not swallow!!
This tastes really fresh and quite minty fresh but with a hintof something medical too. I really like the taste and it leaves my mouth feeling nice and fresh for quite some time after using it which I like. I find if I have a nice fresh tasting mouth I am less likely to be tempted to snack.
This is not recommended for children under 6, probably because they might swallow it by accident and your are not supposed to swallow!!
This comes in a solid plastic recyclable bottle with one of those impossible to open squeeze cap child safety lids. Initially there was a pull off plastic tamper proof seal too which I like to see .
This bottle hold 400ml and sells for around £2 but as always it is worth shopping around as prices vary and special offers can get you a bargain.
I really lied this mouth wash and found it very effective. I do have a different one now but only because it was a new one and on special offer and I can't resit trying anything new. This is one I would be happy to buy again when I need some more effective and plaque and bacteria killing mouthwash.
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name
Colgate pro gum health mouth wash is a brilliant mouth wash. It comes with various flavouring however i felt when using this it made my mouth feel clean, fresh and ready for the day ahead. At the price of around 4.50 gbp i considered this to a be a reasonable price range for an effective product. I am rather apprehensive on anything that touches inside of my mouth as i pride on my teeth and their cleanliness. It made my teeth feel clean fresh and perfect to be seen for majority of my day excluding meals eaten. Its good because as a smoker it freshened my breath and does combat tooth decay to some level. The amount of bacteria that enters your mouth daily this does do the trick to fight it. The best bit is unlike others it is alcohol free. Within a week or two i started to see the difference in my teeth.....it was removing although minimally removing it did remove some stains and made my breath a lot fresher. What makes this different from the rest?? Well it does exactly what it says plus more. I use this twice although once is enough, i use it twice to keep my mouth fresh and minimal bacteria build up in my mouth and its working.
This is a review of Colgate Total Pro Gum Health Daily Mouthwash 400ml which I have been using recently in the quest to find the perfect mouthwash. It is a little more expensive than the usual shops own brands that I use normally but I was trying a toothpaste from the range and wanted to try this mouthwash too.
The bottle is clear plastic with a white label clearly depicting the Colgate brand and inside you can see the mouthwash which is a pleasant shade of purple. The bottle is recyclable after use.
You are advised to use 20ml after brushing which is two cap fulls but I find one cap adequate to swish around my mouth. After 30 seconds you gargle and spit out. I do this twice a day (morning and evening). The flavour is lightly minty but not overpowering and the mouthwash is alcohol free.
This mouthwash protects against gum bleeding and inflamation as well as the usual plaque fighting and breath freshening properties and strengthening enamel.
I have recently become very nervous about my teeth having spent 30 years taking them for granted. I have been lucky with my teeth, never having had any major work, or braces and only a couple of fillings. In my first pregnancy a bit of a big tooth broke off and since then I have been obsessed about the toothbrush, paste, floss and mouthwash I use. I recently reviewed the toothpaste from Colgate I was usuing in 'seductive mint' flavour (!) which perfectly matches the shade of purple that this mouthwash is in too. I don't know why this pleases me but it does. I don't know why but this 400ml bottle has lasted me loads longer than the budget mouthwash I usually use. It's probably a subconscious thought that it's more expensive so I am more careful not to rinse with an excess amount.
I do feel this is a pleasant flavour and has lasting results in keeping my mouth fresh. I do suffer from a bit of bleeding gums after brushing sometimes and I think this is helping to combat that. I would be happy to use again in future but am not sure the shopping budget will always stretch to the price.
A 400ml bottle is £4.49 in Boots at the time of writing this review.
A premium but recommended mouth wash, if you can afford it!
