Advantages: Powerful little 10mls that delivers results
Disadvantages: You need to time your usage of it to help prevent staining of teeth
Corsodyl is an antibacterial designed to restrict plaque forming - and can be used to promote gum healing after dental surgery or treatment. So great for those having just had their wisdom teeth out. It is also used though for treating gingivitis, treating mouth ulcers, to maintain good oral hygiene and to assist in the management of oral thrush and sore mouth (for denture wearers).
Guidance is given on the bottle on how much corsodyl should be used dependant on what it is you are treating. For myself it was twice a day. There is a calibrated 10ml marker on the inside of the bottle lid - fill the corsodyl to this level, rinse for 1 minute and then spit out. The corsodyl itself is a clear liquid and indeed 10ml does not sound like much, however after one minute with this you will feel like your lips are burning, the taste is so strong too that it takes a good few hours for it to die away.
it is not recommended that you brush your teeth after using corsodyl and if you use it before - you must rinse your mouth thoroughly and wait 5 minutes - it all sounds abit scary - but the only detriment will be the effectiveness of the corsodyl itself.
The labelling on the bottle does warn of discolouration to teeth and tongue which may occur for as long as the treatment is used - I personally have never had any encounter with this. The manufactuer recommends to avoid staining that the user should not drink tea, coffee or red wine for the first hour after use and to brush daily with toothpaste before using corsodyl.
TO be honest abstaining from tea, coffee or red wine after this mouth wash isn't a problem as the taste is so strong (super minty - but strong), its abit like trying to enjoy a fizzy drink after an ice cream or drinking tea after a cough sweet.
As for the effectiveness of the product - well my gums healed after the wisdom teeth removal - but to be honest they weren't in too bad a shape after the surgery anyway. Since this time I have used the product for the treatment of gingivitis and found it to be very effective to eleminate gum bleeding and to make gums feel taughter and cleaner. I have also used Corsodyl for easing mouth ulcers - and found this to be effective too.
Because of the issue with the strong after taste - my corsodyl routine consists of flossing, then brushing and rinsing well with water. Waiting for the 5 minutes and then doing the 1 minute rinse with the corsodyl - then I go to bed (yes this is a last thing at night routine) - the hours role by and even though you will wake still being able to taste the corsodyl it will not be quite so blighting on that first tea of the day.
There are a range of bottle sizes I tend to opt for the 300ml as with only using 10ml at a time this lasts sufficiently long inbetween purchases for me. The product life is about 2 years so you should be able to get through a bottle of this size quite easily.
Summary: Really really fresh breath and a healthier feeling mouth
