Corsodyl Mint Mouthwash
Member Name: rockinrach08
Advantages: great for oral hygiene, leaves your mouth feeling very clean
*What is in it and what it is used for*
Corsodyl mouthwash contains an antiseptic and disinfectant agent called chlorohexidine. This fights against various bacteria, viruses, bacterial spores and fungi which are responsible for most throat and mouth infections. This is why it is recommended for use on a wide range of oral problems, including thrush, ulcers and prevents gingivitis through removing plaque. For this reason it may be recommended when toothbrushing is a problem. It is also recommended for use after dental surgery.
If you have oral problems or have been recommended this mouthwash for whatever reason it is suggested that you rinse your mouth out twice a day with 10mls of the mouthwash.
*Pregnancy and Medications*
There is no reason to believe that the ingredients of Corsodyl will affect your medication. It is also safe to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
As it contains chlorohexidine, it is advisable to refrain from using this product if you have an allergy to this agent.
This mouthwash is very minty, to the point of sometimes making your tongue feeling like it is starting to feel numb. I have a high tolerance for extremes like this and it doesn't bother me. However I would imagine some would find this toothpaste too minty. There is also a medicinal taste underneath the mint. The aftertaste can taste a bit metallic.
The taste is although minty it is not as pleasant as other mouthwashs. It can also leave a metallic taste in your mouth throughout the day. It does leave your breath smelling fresh but not to quite the same feeling as normal mouthwashs. Another negative aspect of it is that as it can react negatively with ingredients in modern toothpastes it is suggested that you wait 30mins after brushing your teeth to use the mouthwash which is not always easy to accomodate into your morning routine.
Using it for its primary purpose I cannot rate this product highly enough. My ulcer was reduced within a day and it took very little time to get rid of the ulcer completely. I have used it periodically since then just to keep my oral hygiene up to check and I can always feel it keeping my mouth clean.
The taste disturbance can be a bit off-putting but it is worth it for its cleaning properties. Waiting 30mins after brushing can be a little annoying as well.
As use as a oral medicine I would definitely recommend it. It is not designed as a normal everyday mouthwash though, however there is a separate everyday mouthwash (I have not tried this product to review it).
It is easily found in most chemists and supermarkets beside the other dental products. Prices may vary but my bottle set me back around £4 and it lasted me quite a long time and worked wonders.
Summary: A great product for oral hygiene.
