An Essential Treatment Mouthwash For Irritated Gums!
Member Name: angelboouk
Advantages: works well, easy to use, recommended
Disadvantages: can cause discolouration, expensive
Corsodyl is a range of products designed to protect your gums. This range includes a daily mouthwash and toothpaste and also a dental gel. They also offer a treatment mouthwash which is available in three variations - alcohol free, mint or aniseed. I will be discussing the mint mouthwash.
This particular mouthwash contains chlorhexidine digluconate which is an antibacterial solution. It is suitable for use by those over the age of 12 and shouldn't be used by those who have had a previous reaction to the main ingredient. It is suitable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Always read the label before using this type of product.
This mouthwash can be used twice a day for up to 30days depending on what gum issue you are treating. This mouthwash forms a protective layer over teeth and gums for up to 12 hours and attacks any bacteria which forms plaque.
*Gum desease - a 30 day course of Corsodyl is recommended
*Oral thrush and mouth ulcers - use for up to two days after they have healed
*Denture sores - soak dentures for 15 minutes per day in the mouthwash
*Post-dental treatment - as advised by the dentist
It is important to wait 5 minutes after brushing your teeth before using this mouthwash. Some discolouration may occur during treatment and this is more common when drinking certain fluids including coffee and cola drinks within 1 hour of using the mouthwash.
Corsodyl Mouthwash is presented in a transparent, brown plastic bottle with a white lid which can be used to dispense the mouthwash. All the essential information is on the label.
~Price and Availability~
Corsodyl is available from chemists in a 300ml sized bottle. Expect to pay around £3.65 per bottle (Boots website).
Since falling pregnant with my son more than five years ago, I barely had any dental issues. Until last year, I was attending dental appointments every 2 weeks to have treatment done and also ended up at the emergency dental surgery in my local hospital many times after being in absolute agony. I always ensured I brushed my teeth but I needed so much work done that it was often very painful to do such a simple task twice a day. Thankfully I now only need to attend check ups every 6 months.
I have bought and been prescribed Corsodyl on a few occasions now for various reasons. My gums were in a bad state and a regular mouthwash was of no use. I find Corsodyl to be the most effective way of protecting my gums from further flare ups and use it as and when it is needed rather than on a daily basis. I do find it expensive but worth the higher cost if it means my gums heal quicker or are less irritated.
I favour the mint version over the original. The taste isn't exactly amazing but I can handle it. The mouthwash is clear and a water like consistency. It is very easy to use and it is recommended that you pour 10ml out into the lid and rinse your mouth out with it for a minute. Do not swallow it! I find that Corsodyl is quite medicinal in taste rather than a fresh, minty taste that regular mouthwashes offer. It is quite a powerful taste and leaves a weird aftertaste which to me seems quite metallic.
Whilst in my mouth, I find Corsodyl to leave a cooling coating on my gums and teeth but the active ingredient doesn't feel overly nippy so I am happy to use this one over the alcohol free version. It does leave a light coating on my teeth and I haven't noticed much in the way of discolouration but I am careful not to eat or drink after using this. You really wouldn't want to anyway as the taste of the mouthwash taints anything you try to eat! My mouth is left feeling clean after using this mouthwash but it doesn't leave the same, minty fresh breath that a regular mouthwash would.
This mouthwash works very well at helping my gums heal quickly. I have used it to treat irritated and bleeding gums mainly and I find that it calms the irritation quickly which relieves some of the pain. My gums bleed occasionally so I always have a bottle of Corsodyl in my house and it does help. The effects are long lasting and I also take paracetamol to help with the pain. It is great to use after having dental treatment. I had quite a few treatments done in hospital last year which required seven injections. I was recommended to use this to help heal my gums and find that it helped a great deal without irritating the wounds in my mouth.
I find that I only need to use this for a few days after getting treatment done. I had a really bad bout of gum issues which was a form of gum disease and I had to use this twice a day for a month (I required two bottles) and this mouthwash had a major impact on my gums. I could go as far as saying that it helped save a few teeth from needing pulled too. It is great are preventing infection and soothes any ulcers which may be forming. I find it essential in killing bacteria which may be breeding and keeping my gums in good condition.
Overall I can highly recommend this treatment mouthwash and it is always recommended to me when I go to my local chemist with dental related pain and discomfort. It doesn't replace good dental hygeine though - teeth must be brushed as normal and you need to attend the dentist regularly. I plan on buying the daily mouthwash and toothpaste next week for daily care.
Thanks for reading :)
Summary: I wouldn't be without this
