What do I think?
My mum uses a denture on her upper jaw, and with dentures, unfortunately, they are not completely fitting, and it was becoming annoying that it would come loose everytime she spoke, ate or coughed, so she decided to try a denture fixative. She wasn't very keen at first, because the thought of applying some kind of artificial paste, like glue into the mouth and the possibility of swallowing it, she just wasn't too keen.
Anyway, it was either to try this, or do put up with the dentures coming loose constantly.
Fixodent is one of the better well-known brands, and we were also given a sample of this by the dentist. A 40ml tube of this from the chemist costs about £2-3, it does seem a bit expensive at the time, but once you've used it to fix your dentures, the comfort and confidence it restores is probably very viable.
The paste is very easy to apply, and the box comes with full instructions and reassuring advice on what to expect and do. Basically, you just apply a little in a few areas of the palate of the denture and then fit it back into your mouth. It has quite a strong hold when it is fitted back into the mouth, so it can take a little extra pull to take out the denture again. My mum was a bit worried about this, but after a while you get used to it, and it does advise you to rinse your mouth several times so that it's easier to take out in the evening.
There is a very slight minty taste to the paste and there should be no worry about swallowing some of the paste if you put too much on, as it has all been tested and designed with the mouth in mind.
Very handy product to restore confidence.
