Listerine Natural Citrus
Advantages: Mouth does feel (overly) clean after using
Toilet duck for your mouth
This is a review of 'Cool Citrus' Listerine antibacterial mouthwash. The label promises a 'milder flavour' but I'm not sure I'd call this mouthwash exactly mild!
Mouthwash - is it like marmite?
I am, I must admit an infrequent mouthwash user. I like the idea of it. In fact, if there's a free bottle of it in hotels I'm usually first in there!! Independently I have bought many bottles of the stuff over the year but I think I am searching the market for something that just isn't there. I always seem to buy a different brand and end up using it up vowing 'never again'.
Hard to please
I don't like the taste of any mouthwash I have tried so far. I find them all so strong I can hardly bear to use them. This citrus one is no different. It is unbelievably strong and nearly blows the roof of my mouth off. I can't get the citrus flavour until well after disposing of my mouth full.
Admittedly it does leave your mouth feeling clean but to the point of it feeling like you have just disinfected it! Another reviewer compared it to 'deep heat' and I am inclined to agree that the medicated aftertaste is similar. The promise of a milder flavour on the label is slightly misleading I think.
The bottle is clear plastic with orange coloured liquid inside. The lid is black with a complicated 'squeeze to open' childproof cap which has outfoxed me on a number of occasions. I end up wrestling (and squeezing madly) with the lid before getting into it. I'm sure there is a knack to it. I just can't do it. Would not be any good for arthritic fingers, I'm sure.
The label claims this product removes plaque by up to 56% more than brushing alone, with a little picture showing before and after pictures of teeth. The back advises you use the product twice daily (which is a bit more than I have used it) to provide 24 hour protection against plaque and lasting fresh breath confidence. I would be scared to breathe on someone straight after using this, not that that is a nice thing to do to other people anyway. It probably goes without saying tha you should keep this product out of the reach of children.
You are advised to take 20ml of this at a time, rinsing around teeth and gums for 30 seconds. Good luck if you can last this long. Then spit it out.
I paid £1 for this mouthwash from Poundland but you can get it in most supermarkets too. My bottle was a
small 250ml one, a good idea to start small in case you hate the stuff!
I won't be buying this mouthwash again. I just don't like it and can't say the citrus flavour works any better for me than minty mouth wash. I also don't like the 'antiseptic' burps I get after rinsing (no I didn't swallow it!). I suppose different people have a different concept of what 'clean teeth' feel like. This one's not for me.
Summary: Won't be buying again
