“ Brand: Listerine / Type: Mouthwash / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
I've been using Listerine now for a couple of years, and have tried a few of the different flavours before finally settling on this one, Listerine Softmint. It is milder, making it softer on your mouth unlike some of the other flavours which leave your mouth so tingly it feels like its on fire. The taste is quite medicinal, but you can't expect anything different from a Mouth Wash. It's antibacterial and plaque fighting qualities leave you with the piece of mind that it's done it's job and worked it's magic on your mouth.
Listerine Softmint is a lot milder than some of the other varieties, I've found that some of them can be quite harsh tasting or too strong making it feel like your mouth is on fire. Don't think that because this version of Listerine is soft mint that it is weaker in strength. It is only the flavour that is milder, the strength is still the same, and is just as effective as other Listerine flavours.
Listerine claims to reduces plaque by up to 56%, kill bacteria between teeth and freshens breath for up to 24 hours when used twice daily. I can definitely say that it certainly keeps your breath fresh, it's not for the full 24 hours, if you ate nothing all day and only drank water it would probably still smell quite fresh and minty, but with all the food and drink you consume throughout the day your mouth soon looses it's freshness. Most products that claim to work for 24 hours very rarely do anyway.
Aqua, Alcohol, Sorbitol, Poloxamer 407, Aroma, Benzoic Acid, Eucalyptol, Methyl Salicylate, Thymol, Sucralose, Menthol, Sodium Benzoate, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Benzyl Alcohol.
Other Varieties of Listerine;
Coolmint and Coolmint Antibacterial
Teeth and Gum Defence
Total Care Antibacterial
Total Care Sensitive
Prices for Listerine vary depending on where you shop, and there are so many different size bottles and products you can buy. However, I normally buy mine from Wilkinsons or Asda, the bottles come in either 250ml or 500ml and range from £2-£4. There are regular offers on in various supermarkets for Listerine products so it's best to shop around. I think it's definitely worth spending a little extra on some Listerine, it is far superior to cheaper mouth washes and really does leave your mouth feeling like it's been deep cleansed.
I'd recommend that anyone give Listerine a try, there is a flavour for everyones oral health needs, it's best to have a browse through the different varieties and see what would suit you. Some of the Listerine flavours can be quite strong and over powering, thus why I use softmint I wouldn't recommend that young children use Listerine as it is very strong indeed, also they run the risk of swallowing it. If you want to feel like your mouth has had a real good cleanse after you've brushed then Listerine is definitely for you. It leaves your mouth tingly, sparkly clean and super fresh.
After brushing your teeth the advantages of just having a swig of mouthwash refreshers your breath and also has other advantages which will improve the hygiene of your teeth. I think everyone should have a bottle of mouthwash in their bathroom and if I may say so i recommend ths one all of the other ones out on the market today.
The price for this isn't exactly cheap at £4 but it does come with an extremelly strong scent which stays on your breath for a while unlike cheaper alernatives. This should last a while depending on how many people will use it in your household.
This mouthwash is used to decrease the amoutn of plaque which could arise on your teeth. Alot of people do tend to have a problem with plaque so by purchasing this it could help you in the long run. It also helps in bad breath as the strong smell will stay on your breath for a good length of time.
When to use
It is recommended that you use this straight after you brush your teeth. When I take it I will always take around three quaters of a lid and swill it in my mouth for a firther 30-45 seconds. This is a long enough time because after this it tends to burn your mouth a little. Like all mouthwashes it states on the bottle that you should not swallow this or give it to young children as it is pretty strong.
As a mouthwash I would definatley say this is the best mouthwash on the market today. it offers so much more than your standard mouthwash and for that reason is why so many people like listerine. I plea with anyone who uses mouthwash to change and go with this one. This will be without doubt better than the majority of mouthwashes on the market today.
I was always satisfied with brushing teeth and never cared about mouth washes before. But since some time, I had been suffering from bleeding gums and started observing plaque on my teeth. I noticed my breath was not fresh as before. Teeth problems do come one after the other. This made me worry that I might end up paying costly bills to the dentist if this continues. I started to look for anti bacterial mouth washes which would help my teeth and gums stay clean and healthy. There are quite many anti bacterial mouth wash available in the market now and the advertisements are quite appealing.
I happened to buy 'Soft mint Sensation LISTERINE Antibacterial Mouth wash (Milder flavour)'. The word 'milder flavour' gave me confidence to buy this mouth wash as I was concerned how much pain it would cause in my mouth. As it is antibacterial and is clinically proven to prevent plaque by 56% I readily bought it.
The liquid comes in a plastic bottle and we can clearly see the light green colour liquid in it. It has a black lid and the lid can be used to fill the mouth wash as the liquid should not be directly swig from the bottle. The lid is very tight to remove. We have to squeeze smooth areas on cap and turn at the same time. The smell is pleasant and we do feel the antiseptic smell which stays around for some time after using.
The mouth wash has a mild flavour and causes stinging sensation in the mouth. We can feel the stinging sensation all over the mouth. In the first few days I was not be able to resist the stinging sensation and could not keep the liquid in the mouth for full 30 seconds but gradually I got used to it. Now I can swirl the mouth wash in my mouth for 30 seconds which is the recommended time. I use half lid Listerine each time as soon as I brush my teeth and the results are impressive. I have cleaner teeth, Plaque seems to be reduced and my gums are stronger than before. I have a fresh breath for a long period of time.
For good results this mouth wash should be used regularly after brushing teeth and should be rinsed in the mouth for at least 30 seconds. This product is not suitable for children under 12 years and should be kept out of their reach. The liquid should not be diluted, swallowed or directly taken from the bottle.
I recommend this mouth wash and give it five stars.
For years it seemed that brushing your teeth regularly was enough but now it is recommended that we rinse with mouthwash after brushing to get and even cleaner and fresher mouth, being a stickler for oral hygiene I pretty much do what is recommended by experts so about five years ago I started using mouthwash.
I have tried many in those five years and originally tried the Colgate ones as I had been brushing with Colgate for years it seemed obvious to use their mouthwash too, unfortunately though I found their mouthwashes to be too harsh and too strong tasting so I moved over to Listerine.
My regular mouthwash these days is Listerine softmint, I am not sure where they get off calling this soft mint as it still has a harsh minty taste and burns the tongue but it is much milder than the Colgate alternatives and one of the best I have tasted.
This is not cheap this stuff at over £3.50 for a 500ml bottle but it does definitely leave my breath smelling very, very fresh and my mouth feeling super clean even after a day on the coffee and cigars.
I find if I use this twice a day it does a very good job although I have been found using it more often if I have been going out or having visitors and have been smoking cigars or on the coffee then I tend to rinse out so my breath doesn't have people cringing when they talk to me.
You only need a capful of this to rinse out your mouth but then the cap is quite large and a capful is almost a mouth full, you should swirl this around your mouth for about thirty seconds but be warned it does start to burn the tongue at around twenty, my wife gives up at twenty seconds every time but I do the thirty and take it like a man LOL.
My wife insists she gets a very good clean feeling after the twenty second usage so if it is a bit strong for you then twenty will do I guess but I can certainly say that using this twice daily for thirty seconds a time gives very good results and has left my teeth shinier and with less of a plaque buildup for sure.
My good lady wife's tip to you all would be use only half a capful and swirl for twenty minutes, she says this will save you money as it will last longer and it will save your tongue from blisters, she does exaggerate!!
This is a really effective mouthwash that leaves your mouth and teeth feeling fresh and clean but without the stinging feeling I sometimes find I get with the stronger flavoured washes.
This mouthwash is pleasant to swill around your mouth and helps remove plaque as well as leaving you with fresh breath. The fresh feeling lasts for around 1 hour or so after use. I combine the mouthwash with brushing my teeth at the same time. I find this mouthwash has a longer lasting effect than some other brands.
Although you get a reasonable amount in the bottle you do need a good mouthful to be able to swill properly so a small bottle does not really last very long. Maybe only a week with regular use. At around £3 or more a bottle it is more expensive than some other brands but I do think you get what you pay for. It is avialble from almost all chemists and supermarkets alonfg with the other Listerine mouthwash varieties.
Listerine Softmint mouthwash has been great for me ever since I started using it on the advice of my dentist. Every time after I finish washing my teeth, I use a little bit and rinse my teeth with it. I have heard from many people that it stings your mouth but I have never experience the so-called sting before. It is very useful and it helps reduce the amount of plaque on your teeth.
No matter how hard you brush, it is nearly impossible to get all the plaque off your teeth. I do not think even dentists can do it all the time. This is where Listerine comes in. According to Listerine, they say that using their product reduces plaque up to 56% more than brushing your teeth alone. This is really good and is beneficial to anyone who does not use any form of mouthwash.
It does not only remove plaque but also gives your mouth that refreshing feel. It gives you fresh breath and takes away bad mouth odours. This is great for those people who smoke.
A 500ml bottle costs around £3-3.50 which some may think is expensive but it does work for me so I think it totally worth it. I always enjoy rinsing it between my teeth knowing it is cleaning my teeth and killing any bacteria within my mouth. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Bad breath is something I become easily worried about - not helped by the fact one of my colleagues has it really bad and I always wonder how do they not know?? My other half is a Listerine devotee but despite my bravest attempts I just couldn't handle it, he is clearly a glutton for punishment as the pain and stinging associated with the majority of their brands was too intense for my little mouth! Now I know no pain no gain but this was way too much and it nearly put me off mouthwash for good.
Listerine Softmint Sensation stands out from its counterparts on the supermarket shelf by being a light green colour, much more appealing in my opinion than the purple and offensively strong blue you can get. The bottle is clear plastic with a handy black lid that you fill up with your mouthwash to ensure you get the right amount. A sticker clearly indicates that this is a mouthwash with a milder flavour! Yippee, so pleased I almost did a gig in Tesco, I am clearly not alone in thinking mouthwash need not be this painful!
A tad pricey at £3.99 for 500ml which usually lasts me about five weeks (the other half has not converted so its just me using it). The product states that it is an antibacterial mouthwash that kills 56% more plaque than brushing alone. An impressive statistic although as stated above my main reason for buying this product is fresh breath. The product also states that it is clinically proven to protect and reduce plaque and if used twice daily provides 24 hour protection. I take it that means it actually provides 12 hours per application but clearly 24 hours looks better on the bottle.
After brushing I fill about half the cap full (a full cap is an although lot and as I'll get to Im still not hardy enough to take it all!) and swirl around my mouth. At first I was pleasantly surprised as it lasted in their longer than three seconds I could handle the other brands, reaching the 20 second stage and it does begin to burn slightly and once the eyes start to water I have to tap out. However the results are impressive! My breath stays fresh all morning but the most noticeable improvement has been the condition of my teeth which are shinier and do indeed seem to resist the daily plaque build-up.
This is definitely the product for you if you need something a little gentler but no less effective, only four stars though because of the price and my tip would be that you don't need a full cap full - its just as effective and better for your wallet if you use less.
I've never been able to use Listerine as I find it really painful, it just stings like hell every time I use it, but at the same time other mouthwashes don't seem to give me the clean feeling that Listerine does. So, when this new Softmint version came out I jumped at the chance to try it. It costs £2.39 for 250ml or £4.30 for 500ml in Boots.
It comes in a clear plastic bottle so you can always easily see how much you have left, and it has a black lid. The lid is a 'safety lid', which is supposed to be too difficult for children to open because you have to press in both of the sides at the same time as turning it. This does stop children from being able to open, but it also makes it difficult for a lot of adults to open!
To use it you just pour some into the lid, or a glass, and rinse it around your mouth for 30 seconds. I find that this does still give a stinging sensation like the other Listerines, but not to the same extent. This is just a little uncomfortable rather than painful, and unlike with the other Listerines, I can actually manage to rinse for the full 30 seconds without feeling like I'm rinsing with acid.
It tastes quite nice, just a vague fresh minty flavour which is not too strong, and it also smells nice, but not overly strong, so it keeps your breath fresh without being too obviously minty.
This does make the whole of my mouth feel really clean and fresh, and I do feel better for using it. There is no other mouthwash that makes my mouth feel this clean, so I'm glad that I've found a Listerine that I can actually use. It keeps my breath fresh for hours after use so I don't have to worry about getting close to people.
The bottle says that this stuff reduces plaque by up to 56% more than brushing alone, and while I have no way of proving this I'm happy to believe it and carry on using this alongside my usual toothpaste.
I have tried many different mouthwash over the years as I am a smoker and fresh breath is something I am a little paranoid about.
Firstly the one thing I hate about mouthwash in general is the fact hat it just burns my tongue, I just find most of them to strong. Although Listerine has always been one of my first choice mainly because it is a long standing reputable brand name and it isn't too expensive. So when I saw they were doing a milder flavour I thought I would give it a go as I really hate that stingy, burning sensation on my tongue as it actually hurts me.
Listerine Softmint Sensation is an antibacterial mouth wash available to purchase from most supermarkets and retailers that sell health and beauty products. It's roughly £2.50 for 500ml. It advertises that it can reduce plaque by up to 56% more than brushing alone if used twice daily and provides 24hrs protection. The packaging is a clear plastic bottle with a silver and green label and a black child safe screw on lid.
It recommends using 20ml for 30 seconds. Well putting all this information aside i can honestly say it still burns my mouth. The minty sting is still far too strong. Yes it does keep your breath fresh for a couple of hours, but being a smoker the freshness will never last all day. I don't know if I am just overly sensitive but like I said it still burns my mouth. I still use it as most other mouthwash have the same affect.
Other than the fact I find it to strong my mouth does feel extremely fresh after using this mouthwash, a lot fresher than brushing alone and I haven't found another mouthwash that lasts as long
Great mouthwash just a pity i'm a wimp!
I always used to use Listerine but then bought some Dentyl mouthwash to see what was in the sink! However I moved back to Listerine mouthwash recently because the Dentyl mouthwash I had been using had a product recall. So trusty old Listerine is now back on my bathroom shelf. The Listerine product I am currently using is Softmint Sensation antibacterial mouthwash and in really big letters on the label there are those reassuring words that promise "Milder Flavour".
Now I personally use Listerine as I have became a tooth cleaning addict in my older age and I floss every night. Now this is mainly to avoid that disapproving look that my dentist gives me when she asks "how often do you floss or use mouthwash?" She knows the answer and it is always not as often as I should. But for the last few years that question has not been asked so I guess that mouthwash really does work.
Onto the Listerine brand, when you think of it you know that you are getting something that has been around for a while, that dentists recommend and that is trustworthy. Each bottle has a batch number and an expiry date stamped on the bottle for a little reassurance.
Now comes the taste test. Well I was fully reassured by the milder flavour promise on the front of the bottle filled up my glass and rinsed around my teeth, thinking to myself "yes this is mild........." no its not mild at all. This should be sold as a DIY torture mechanism! It is so strong. I clench my fists and keep going another 5 seconds. My tongue feels like it is being burned away by acid, the pain is intense. Another 5 seconds, must keep going, and then suddenly, the pain begins to subside. I manage my 30 seconds and spit out just in time before I start crying. I normally need the moral support of my husband to get to the 30 seconds!
My mouth feels like it has had an intense clean, just back from the dentist smell and feel. This product really does do the job, it just takes a bit of pain, but as they say no pain no gain. It states that it will provide 24 hour protection but I always use it morning and night. Also the bottle states that it is clinically proven to fight plaque reducing plaque levels in the mouth by 56% compared to brushing alone, kill bacteria and freshen breath.
My dentist is impressed with my torture kit, i mean mouthwash and she even said that if you really can't stand the pain it is okay to dilute it a bit with water.
One of the main ingredients in this mouthwash is alcohol and it is not suitable for under 12's.
So all in all this product really does make for more healthy teeth and gums not be mention a smug visit to the dentist. This product could put hygenists out of a job! I love listerine and I am sorry I strayed to Dentyl, but I am now back and here I will stay.
I bought a 250ml bottle from tesco for 99p while it was on offer, Listerine is a bit more expensive than other brands but is worth it for that fresh from the dentist feeling! If only they really could make it milder.....
I am fairly new to the Listerine range as I used Colgate Plax mouthwash before. The only reason I changed was because I read many good reviews about it and it is clinically proven to do more things than the Plax.
When I went into my local Boots I was taken back by the large range of different mouthwashes Listerine do.
Teeth & Gum, Coolmint, Softmint, Freshburst, Total Care, Stay White, Original & Cool Citrus.
Along with the different mouthwashes was the different sized bottles ranging from 95ml - 500ml. And for each bottle the price varied alot.
Now, what made me choose the softmint?
I actually brought the coolmint first, mainly because it was the cheapest.
But when I came to use coolmint, I followed the instructions and put the liquid into my mouth. Litrally 3 seconds later I spat it out as my mouth felt like it was on fire!! I had to dive under the cold tap to rinse my mouth out!
I carried on using coolmint and got used to the burning sensation. When I was near the end of the bottle I went into Boots to get another bottle of mouthwash, but not coolmint!
I saw Listerine was on 2 for £5.00, so I took advantage of this offer and decided to look at the expensive bottles which are near the £5.00 mark.
I saw Softmint sensation and it looked good, everything I needed but hopefully won't make my mouth feel like it's on fire.
I picked up two 500ml bottles which cost £4.30 each, but as they were on offer it cost £5.00 for both, bargain!
The next morning I took off the child-proof black cap and poured 20ml (4 x 5ml teaspoon) of the light green liquid into the lid.
When I took the lid off, the aroma of antiseptic came out. It wasn't strong nor unpleasent but it depends if you like that smell.
I wasn't sure what to expect as it is a milder flavour compared to Coolmint, but I poured it into my mouth and swished it around. At first there was a very slight burning sensation but it was fine.
I left it in for the 30 seconds that Listerine recommened, my mouth and teeth felt fresh and clean, although if you leave it in your mouth any longer than the 30 seconds it starts to burn.
The taste is fairly pleasent too, it doesn't taste how it smells which is good! It is meant to be Soft Mint hense the name, but I can't taste the mint very well, it's hard to explain how it taste's but I find it's fine and actually pleasent.
I have been using softmint for over a two months now and I have found it really works. My mouth feels fresh throughout the day and all my teeth feel like the mouthwash has got inbetween them.
The mouthwash is an antibacterial too, which helps to kill bacteria between the teeth.
It is said to reduce plaque by 56% more than brushing alone, plaque is a major form of gum disease. This is another reason why I chose this mouthwash although I brush my teeth twice a day I feel this gives them a bit of extra protection.
If you use this twice a day morning & evening it will provide you with 24 hours of protection.
Overall I like this mouthwash, I feel it provides my mouth with everything listed on the bottle.
The only disadvantage is that it's hard to judge 20ml, and often in the morning I don't have time to measure as I'm nearly always running late!
Also the slight burning sensation if you leave it in over 30 seconds, it's good as you then know you have to spit it out but, it's not a nice feeling.
