I have used mouthwashes for years but always bought the cheap supermarket own brands. Whilst I was assured they were still as good for my teeth (fluorine-wise) as the branded alternatives, I found they didn't keep my breath fresh for more than a few minutes. Listerine is different.
Listerine is used after brushing teeth. Rinse a little round the mouth for 15-30 seconds then spit out; this takes relatively little time out of your day for total oral protection.
I picked Listerine total care as it claims to provide the most protection for your teeth. In particular, it is antibacterial and so kills oral bacteria that may cause damage to your teeth. It also claims to reduce plaque and tartar. In addition, it claims to provide fresh breath for 24 hours. This is not quite true, as after eating, the fresh feeling does disappear. However the flavour of the mouthwash is intensely minty (perhaps too strong for some) and so does keep your breath fresh until lunchtime! If required though, you could rinse with listerine after mealtimes as well.
At around £4 for 500ml (widely available from supermarkets and chemists) it is probably the priciest mouthwash available. However for all the protection it provides it is worth it. This bottle size will last you about two months with use twice daily. Listerine total care is also available in 1L bottles for better value, and 250ml travel size bottles.
If only for the fresher breath I would recommend this mouthwash. If it provides all the additional protection that it claims, then that's just a bonus!
Summary: Worth the money for the fresh breath and protection
