My teeth are Mac-Cleaned!
Member Name: joey92
Advantages: Good value, quality clean
Disadvantages: None particularly!
I don't have a brand preference when it comes to toothpaste so I picked up this toothpaste on a special offer at £1 for a tube which is about the most I'd like to be paying for a toothpaste really! This tube promises fresh breath, plaque prevention and clean feeling, all the aspects you might expect from a decent toothpaste really!
Macleans have been making toothpaste for many years, and are currently owned by the pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline. There are a few varieties available, we currently own the fresh mint version but Macleans also offer their speciality whitening toothpaste, designed for those conscious of their smile. I find the whitening toothpaste a little strong in terms of mint flavour, but the fresh mint one that we got on offer for £1 has the right balance of cool mint flavour.
However, I am undecided as to whether a stronger flavour in toothpaste actually means its doing a better job, or whether that feature adds to fresher breath for longer. I would be inclined to say that it does leave a fresher taste in your mouth for longer but I'm not sure what the ingredient is that determines whether a toothpaste is whitening or whether that is just a marketing ploy! Regardless, I am very satisfied with Macleans the brand overall, but would not pay more than £1 really unless I had dental problems.
Is it effective? Yes, I brush twice a day, some people favour brushing more or less frequently but again it is all down to personal preference. It is recommended by dentists to spend approximately two minutes brushing and I know you can get mini two minute hourglasses to check up that the kids are spending enough time brushing their teeth!
The product does what it says it does, gives you a fresh mouth, provides a not too overpowering minty flavour and cleans your teeth effectively to reduce the likelihood of a build up of plaque.
You can brush with an electric toothbrush or a normal toothbrush though some dentists suggest that the supposed benefits from electric toothbrushes are in fact a myth!
The tube lasts a fair amount of time, perhaps 3-4 weeks in our house with the two of us using it.
Available in large supermarkets and cosmetics stores such as Boots and Superdrug, alongside bargain stores like Wilkinsons and Poundland, this toothpaste is not difficult to come across at all! I would recommend the £1 offer currently on in Tesco but do not know how long this is on for!
Macleans toothpaste have a website over at www.macleans.co.uk and this is not a very informative website but it does suggest that there is currently a competition on, you can find your code to enter on the side of certain boxes, and the prizes sound pretty nice - spa days and pamper days! Unfortunately my toothpaste is not a competition tube!
A well known family brand and a quality, timeless product.
