Advantages: good price, minty breath, clean mouth, whiter teeth
I bought MacLeans whitening toothpaste as it promised whiter teeth and offered enamel protection. Plus it was only £1 (at time of purchase) so I didn't see any reason not to! I like to use whitening products as I drink a lot of strong tea and wine and feel as though I should be doing something to stop them staining too much. But I am still sceptical of their efficacy.
-- Use --
The first time I used this I noticed the product wasn't overly minty but strong enough to leave my breath minty fresh for quite some time after use. The mint isn't too overpowering but noticeable. It is quite a thick paste and lathers (is that the right word?) up quite nicely during brushing. After use my mouth definitely feels clean and my breath fresh.
In terms of lastability, one tube will last me quite (with myself as the only person that uses it) for about a month/ month and a half. I'd say this was on par with other toothpastes that I have tried.
-- The claims --
MacLeans claim that this toothpaste is two times more effective at whitening teeth than a normal toothpaste due to its triple action formula. It states that after 28 days you should notice a difference in the whiteness of your teeth.
Now, my teeth aren't that bad but I do realise that they could be a lot better. This is why I like using whitening products, even if I am not entirely convinced of their efficacy. I'd say this toothpaste has improved the whiteness of my teeth somewhat in the first 28 days of use. I wouldn't say that this was to a great degree but a move towards restoring the natural whiteness of my teeth. I'd say it was similar to the effects of similar products on the market. Not one that really stood out.
It also claims to protect the enamel. However, I can't judge the effectiveness of this.
-- Overall --
I would recommend this product. It does leave your breath minty, your mouth clean and improves the whiteness of your teeth. I wouldn't say it was a stand out product but there are definitely no negative points to raise. As long as you aren't expecting a miracle product you should be satisfied. It does its job; thats all you can ask.
Summary: Good toothpaste but nothing amazing.
