Advantages: nice taste, trusted brand

Disadvantages: short lasting effects, sensetive feeling

Whilst doing my weekly food shop I saw a stand offering this new Oral-B toothpaste at a reduced introductory price so I grabbed one. I had a sample of this toothpaste from the dentist and loved the taste so was pleased with my purchase.

Oral-B has been around for years and is one of my trusted brands for oral healthcare. The toothpaste is normally priced about £2.40 which isn't bad looking at it on its own but when you're trying to save every penny from a shopping budget you tend to find the cheapest you can without compromising too much on quality. That being said I will normally go for the cheapest of the top named brands. That usually means picking between Colgate and Aquafresh. I guess the main reason I try to save some money by choosing cheaper toothpaste is because buying inter-dentals, toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss and mouthwash for four people can get expensive. Especially as we are all in varying age groups. Under 5, under 10 and then two ancient parents.

The taste of this toothpaste sends me back to my early teens. I was one of those kids who looked forward to going to the dentist. I have had a couple fillings over the years but generally have healthy teeth and the thing I liked the most about the dentist was the fluoride treatments. Something English people are less familiar with so to fill you in it was exactly what it sounds like. You would have cotton bits put around your mouth and then flavoured fluoride foam was put all over your teeth for a selected amount of time (maybe 10 minutes, can't 100% remember). My favourite flavour was the lemon and when that one wasn't made anymore I moved on to bubble gum. I know some people here aren't as fluoride friendly as the Americans but it's a selling feature in toothpastes for me.

From Boots.com:
Oral-B Pro-Expert All-Around Protection contains a POLYFLUORITE SYSTEM consisting of an antibacterial fluoride and Active Clean Crystals to provide a unique cleaning sensation. You can actually feel it working.

With regular brushing, Oral-B Pro-Expert helps:
* Prevent Cavities
* Prevent Plaque
* Prevent Gum Problems
* Build increasing protection against painful sensitivity
* Prevent Tartar
* Whiten teeth by removing surface stains
* Prevent Enamel Erosion
* Freshen Breath

Clinically proven for all-around protection.

I was very happy at home after a hygiene clean at the dentist feeling as if I was keeping my teeth in super good condition using this toothpaste. The paste itself isn't over powering with minty-ness which is a bonus because it means you can brush your teeth for a good 2 minutes without the taste being TOO much to bare.

I like to trust toothpastes when they say things like prevents cavities and tartar and all that junk so I will continue to do that but haven't really got any way of proving it except that I haven't had a filling since my early twenties and even then it was one of those white ones (not a full filling).

After having a hygiene clean my teeth are a bit sensitive which is understanding but the last one I had was the worst. I'll have to speak to the hygienist next time but I think she was a bit too rough with my gums. I was able to brush properly but found that my gums didn't settle for a few days.

It has been a month now since my dentist visit and have been using Oral-B pro-expert ever since and have a few notes to share. This Oral-B toothpaste doesn't last as long as some others I have used. I would wake up in the mornings with a taste that could rival that of a camel which as you can imagine wasn't pleasant. Over the last few days I used another toothpaste in the bathroom and this hasn't been happening anymore. I don't have sensitive teeth normally but they have been so over the past few weeks. I'm hoping trading toothpastes will bring my teeth back to their normal selves.

Pro-Expert tastes great and I much prefer it to others but I think I will trade back for longer lasting effects.

I also have a complaint on packaging ... Maybe I'm being lazy but screw on caps are very annoying. I would much prefer a flip lid or something along those lines.
