Advantages: Cleans and freshens for good oral health, easy to use, reasonable price
Disadvantages: Can be difficult to use on back teeth
We all know that to keep your teeth and gums healthy it is necessary to not only brush the teeth but also to floss after brushing. Put into practise this is more difficult, as given that I generally take a couple of minutes to clean my teeth, flossing them is another regime which quite honestly I could do without. However, spurred on by a recent trip to the dentist, I endeavoured to make sure that I flossed my teeth every couple of days this year and so went looking for a good dental floss.
The Oral B Satin Floss looks in shape and appearance not dissimilar to any other branded dental floss. The floss is packaged in a small blue tub which has a snap back lid and is illustrated with the Oral B Satin logo and a small mint leaf to demonstrate the flavour of the floss inside. Upon clicking open the lid you are met with a visible strip of floss with the rest of the 25m tied up in a neat little roll underneath. This box also has a small cutter to enable the user to pull and cut the desired amount of floss. Being mint flavoured the floss does have a subtle mint fragrance which you can noticeably taste when using in your mouth.
To use, I normally find that it is best to cut off a strip of about a few inches long. This will then enable you to wind each end of the floss to both index fingers to enable a firm grip when cleaning around your teeth. Once firmly secure simply work the floss between the teeth working from the bottom upwards to ensure that the plaque and other particles are worked up and away from the tooth. Then I prefer to finish off the process by having a good gargle of mouthwash to completely rinse all the nasty stuff out of my mouth leaving it feeling fresh and clean. It is advised that you use a clean strip of floss for each tooth, and the effort can be quite disgusting as you realise what lives between your teeth; all the more reason to floss regularly.
The results speak for themselves as not only have I found that I have squeaky clean teeth but also my teeth feel cleaner for longer during the day. The minty fragrance only adds to the nice taste in your mouth whilst the floss works away all the bacteria leaving my breath fresher for longer. I have found that the satin finish to the floss means that it does glide quite easily through the teeth and therefore does not need much pulling. This material is durable enough to survive a few pulls before it starts to fray at the edges.
The small box that this floss is packaged in means that it can easily be popped in to your travel bag whilst on the go, therefore you will not have any excuses for bad dental hygiene on holiday. However, my only criticism of this product is the method of application as whilst it is easy to floss between your front teeth it is made more difficult to reach the back teeth where a lot of the problems start, and this is where the 'D' shaped flossing sticks excel more.
This dental floss can be bought from a large number of chemists and supermarkets for around the £1 - £2 mark. I bought mine in Wilkinsons for around £1.50 however it can also be bought online from Amazon for £1.19.
Overall I would recommend this dental floss as a cheap easy way to clean and freshen the teeth and gums and the 25m of floss means that this product will last a good couple of months before it needs replacing. If it saves you a trip to the dentist then it is far and away a good activity to build into your daily routine and that is why I keep using mine.
This product scores four stars out of five from me!
