Recently I have had to have some surgery on my jaw and to remove some teeth too. This meant that I was at risk of infection and needed to take care of my mouth. I have been using salt water rinses and then following up with Oraldene after brushing my teeth just to ensure that I cover all bases and keep my mouth as free of germs and infection as possible.

Oraldene is widely available and I picked mine up for just £2.50 in Sainsburys. This was the standard price and seemed reasonable enough when I was looking at medicate mouthwashes. I wasn't worried about price but rather was looking for a brand name that I had heard good things about before and Oraldene fit the bill.

Oraldene is an antiseptic mouthwash that is ideal for the treatment of minor infections including fungal and bacterial ones. This mouthwash is useful for treating thrush, mouth ulcers, gingivitis, sore throats, halitosis, gum inflammation, swelling and both before and after dental surgery. This is basically the majority of problems that can or might occur within your mouth so for £2.50 this covers a wide range of illnesses or afflictions.

This medicated mouthwash comes provided in a cardboard box and within the box is the glass bottle of mouthwash. There is a screw on lid that is not child proof but was quite difficult for me to open so I had to ask my husband to help. This is a liquid, as I expected, and is a watery red colour, almost pink in appearance. It is very watery and smells strong which is a little bit off putting, however, nothing much that is good for my mouth even smells or tastes good so I have become used to this in recent months.

This mouthwash can be used by anyone over the age of 6 years old but must be avoided if you have a sensitivity to Hexetidine. This is the active ingredients within this mouthwash and is what helps this mouthwash keep your mouth clean and germ free.

As it is suggested that 15mls of this should be taken as the dosage I use a tablespoon to put this in to my mouth (to ensure I don't go over the top), gently swish it around my mouth, gargle with it for about 30 seconds, or as long as I can manage, and then spit this back in to the sink. I then gently rinse my mouth with water to remove any excess liquid and in all it takes just a few minutes to use this mouthwash. I have been using this mouthwash three times a day and have found that it has worked very well, with a combination of salt rinses and generally good oral health, at keeping my mouth infection free.

I don't normally suffer with problems in my mouth but since finding out I needed some work done I have had constant pain and since my operation it has been excruciating. I have found that this mouthwash is quite easy to use and there is not a harsh sting that I found with other mouthwashes before I even had my operation. The price of this mouthwash is very reasonable too and I have enough to last for 7 full days, even with 3 times daily usage, so that makes each bottle great value. £2.50 per week to keep great oral health while at risk of an infection seems reasonable to me.

Each time I have used Oraldene I have noticed within an hour or so that my pain has decreased greatly. When suffering as much as I have been recently this is fantastic and is what is making me give this mouthwash 5/5!
