I recently went on holiday to America, the land of perfect, pearly white teeth so before I went I wanted to give my own teeth a white boost so they wouldn't look so discoloured. I enjoy coffee and red wine and all the things that are bad for your teeth and so they are not as white or as bright as I would like them to be. I didn't want to go the full route of getting them professionally bleached and so after browsing on the Boots website I came across Rapid White which promises to get your teeth four shaped whiter in just a week. At just £8 for the weeks treatment I wasn't expecting great things and actually wanted to but a more expensive product but that was out of stock and so with my impending holiday looking I decided to try this.
The set is extremely easy to use and didn't cause any sensitivity or irritation to my teeth and gums which is good although maybe the lack of sensitivity gives a clue as to how well the gel will work. With other stronger whitening products I have tried in the past they did make my teeth very sensitive but then they did give me quite white teeth so there is a toss up here.
The thought behind the kit is that it is inspired by dentists' whitening treatments, using the mouth tray application method. In the little pack you get two rubber dental trays, an Accelerator 6ml, Whitening Gel 13ml and Whitening Toothpaste 14ml. The trays are intended to fit every mouth but you can warm them up to make them fit to your mouth better but I found they fit well. One little side did make one part of my gum a bit sore but it actually wasn't that bad. They were easy to take in and out as there is a little plastic hook that helps you to put them in and out. The set also comes with a plastic case that you can store the dental trays in after use.
To use all you had to do was apply the accelerator to your teeth. This came in a little stick with a pad on the end. To me it was a bit like applying smelly swimming pool water to my teeth but it wasn't too bad. Then you put the whitening gel in the mouth trays and apply the trays to your top and bottom teeth and keep it there for not longer than 10 minutes. After taking the trays off you brush the gel away and brush your teeth with the whitening toothpaste. The instructions told me to do this twice a day for one week which I duly did.
So, what results did I get. Well, I have to say that my teeth definitely looked very clean after use and were really quite shiny and squeaky clean. I do think the shade of my teeth improved a bit but I have to say the results were very short lived and after about a week or so I would say they were back to their normal colour which was a bit disappointing. I think if you want a quick burst of whitening that doesn't last too long this is a great kit but for long term results I would recommend something else.
We purchased this product on boots 3 for 2 offer. After one week, one of us had experienced many painful ulcers and no change in colour. I however had experienced the slightest of changes, though I feel that was down to the fact that I was now brushing my teeth four times a day and far more thoroughly at that. However as I continued use I started to feel some tingling on my gums only two minutes in. I left the gum shields on for another three mins before having to take them off. Despite this everything looked fine. However when I woke up I discovered three vast blisters on my gums and an ulcer on my bottom lip, and upon trying to clean my teeth as normal experienced a lot of bleeding from these areas. I haven't used the product for three days now and any gums are only now healing.
I'd never recommend this product as I wouldn't wish the pain upon anyone.
This is a review for the Rapid White Tooth Whitening Kit which I purchased from Boots for £7.99.
I had recently stopped smoking and took time freshen up after kicking the habit, one of these things was to whiten up my nicotine stained teeth. Upon deciding this I went to boots to find a suitable kit that didn't cost the earth and the Rapid White Tooth Whitening Kit is what I chose.
I purchased the starter kit which consisted of the whitening gel, activation fluid, whitening toothpaste and the tooth forms. All products were enough for one weeks treatment and Rapid White suggest no longer than a 14 day treatment period.
The instructions for use were very simple, especially compared to some of the other kits which looked fairly complicated. To begin with I had to create the tooth moulds to match my teeth, this was very straight forward as I only had to dip each form into cooled boiled water for about 10 seconds or until the form had gone clear. When this had happened, ensuring the form did not stick to itself, I placed the form into my mouth over the intended teeth and let it cool and harden. I found a very gentle sucking action helped the form mould to the fromt of my teeth better and within 15 seconds it was ready. Then repeat with the next forn on the other teeth.
Once this has been done, you can squeeze a small amount of the whitening gel into the forms and then, starting with the top teeth, apply the activation fluid being careful not to rub it away with your lips and push the form into place. The activation fluid as applied using its own tube which has a small fabric pad through which the activation fluid can flow and cover your teeth.
After 10 mins I then removed both moulds and gently brushed my teeth with just water to remove any excess gel and then finished by brushing using the whitening toothpaste.
In all honestly I was not expecting an aweful lot from the first application but but myself and my partner were very supprised at how a lot of the discolouration had become very subtle and even gone in some places and I continued the treatment in earnest, compleating two treatments per day, once in the morning and once in the evening after my normal brushing. At the end of the week I was very pleased with the results and had achieved in getting 4 shades whiter teeth and even had whitening toothpaste remaining with lasted another couple of days.
In all I am very impressed with the treatmentas I was easy to use, provided fantastic results and the whitening gel had a pleasent minty flavour rather than some of the horrible tasting stuff your can get.
As I said before, I purchased the starter kit from Boots at £7.99 but can also be purchased on Amazon.co.uk for £9.99.
My boyfriend recently found a love of coffee and started drinking so much it was staining his teeth quite badly, and I decided we had to do something about it as it was getting quite noticeable. I didn't want to have to pay out loads for a dental whitening treatment, so I popped into Boots to see what they had. I found rapid white for £7.99 and thought it looked pretty good, and if it didn't work, it was only a cheap set, so not much of a loss.
The set came with 2 mouth trays, accelerator gel, whitening gel and whitening toothpaste. There is also a case for storing the mouth trays and an instruction leaflet. All this comes in a white box, with the rapid white logo printed on it, and some information and instructions on the sides and back.
To start with you have to form the mouth trays to your teeth, which you do quite easily. Just pop the mouth trays into hot water for 20 seconds, then place over your teeth and wait another 30 seconds. These are then formed and ready to use. You start by brushing your teeth (with the whitening toothpaste) and then place some gel into the two mouth trays, and using the accelerator paste. You just rub this paste over the teeth, with the sponge tipped tube it comes in. Pop in the gelled up mouth trays, and leave them for 10 minutes. After ten minutes, take out the trays and rinse them, brush your teeth with just a brush and water to remove any excess gel, and then brush your teeth again with the whitening tooth paste.
You follow this process twice a day for 7 days. Amazingly, my boyfriends teeth showed a massive improvement straight away. Not only were the stains significantly less, they were whiter too. I was truly amazed, and hoped the kit would continue in such an amazing way, and not just be a one hit wonder.
Over the next 7 days, my boyfriend continued to use this as instructed, and my life the results were amazing. You could see a difference with each use, and at the end of the week, they looked perfectly clean and white. All stains gone, teeth whitened, perfect! I was truly amazed by the results of this, especially for the price and I will be soon getting myself a kit to whiten my teeth up.
I was expecting this kit to taste nasty, but it smelt minty and I had to try a bit of the gel for myself, and it tastes like a nice, fresh toothpaste! Amazing even more!
I recommend this to everyone who wants to whiten their teeth, it really does work, even better so than the box suggests. It says on the box not to be used by anyone under the age of 14 or with any gum or mouth problems such as gum disease, so if you have one of these problems, please do not use it. It also says not to be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
You can buy this in Boots, and they also have a range of other rapid white products if this one does not take your fancy.
My local NHS dental surgery recently went private and enclosed with the letter informing me of this, was a glossy cosmetic dentistry pamphlet inviting me to have my teeth whitened from only £199. I don't know anyone who wouldn't want gleaming, arctic white Hollywood style teeth, but equally, I don't know anyone who could justify spending this sort of money on cosmetic dentistry.
A few days later whilst shopping in Boots, I noticed The Rapid White Tooth Whitening System priced at £7.82 for a starter kit or £29.35 for a larger kit and with the prospect of sparkly white teeth in mind I bought the starter kit. This contained 14 applications (enough for 1 week) and the box boasted that the whitening system would make your teeth 3 shades lighter in 7 days.
Inside the box I found a 6ml bottle of accelerator liquid, a 13.6ml tube of whitening gel, a 14.1ml tube of whitening toothpaste, a duplex mouth tray, a tooth shade chart and instructions.
Before using the kit you need to identify the shade of your teeth using the chart provided for before and after comparison purposes. My teeth were shade 3 on the scale which ranges from 1 to 16 where 1 is a very pale cream colour and shade 16 is the most stained and is of a similar hue to chicken tikka masala.
The instructions then say to gently brush your teeth and prepare the mouth tray which is a small rubber gum-shield shaped device with two moulded channels. This is simple and involves squeezing some whitening gel into the upper and lower rebates.
You then have to uncap the accelerator bottle and rub the sodium chlorite liquid onto the surfaces of the teeth to be whitened. This again is straightforward because the tip of the bottle is a kind if sponge which wicks and spreads the accelerator effectively. The accelerator doesn't particularly smell or taste of anything and at this stage you cannot let you lips touch your teeth because the liquid will be wiped off.
The next stage is to insert the gel filled gum shield in your mouth where the acidic solution in the gel reacts with the sodium chlorite to break down the stains on your teeth. This is vile. The gel itself smells like the stuff you rinse your mouth out with at the dentist and has a viscosity somewhere between window frame sealant and wallpaper paste which oozes out of the sides of the mouth tray making you gag.
The filled gum shield needs to be left in for between 5-10 minutes, when it can be removed and the sticky excess gel brushed away with water.
The process is completed by cleaning your teeth with the whitening toothpaste.
The instructions state that this procedure has to be repeated morning and evening for a week to achieve the desired results. After the first application, my teeth felt very slightly cleaner but visibly no different. After the 14 applications, I would say that my teeth at best were shade level 2 on the colour scale i.e. not much different. I don't know whether this product would have more noticeable results on badly stained teeth, but if your teeth are quite clean anyway, there is little improvement.
A day or so after I had stopped using the product my teeth were exactly the same shade as they were before I started.
I would conclude therefore that, if you already have relatively clean teeth, this product is a waste of time and money.
Rapid White tooth Whitening System
After feeling like having been pregnant for ages and generally not feeling like myself, I took a step back and realised how I am going to look in all these photographs that are to be taken at the birth of my son! Not only will I look tired out but my hair will be a state, my eyebrows over grown and my teeth a creamier shade than is necessarily flattering.
I decided to take actions in to my own hands and prepare myself for the birth by trying to at least look a little bit descent. I have had my hair highlighted, plucked my eyebrows, tinted my lashes and I reached once more for the Rapid White Tooth Whitening System that I have had tucked away in my cupboard for a short while.
I purchased this kit on one of my many shopping trips a few back, before the pregnancy, when I was blowing cash like there was no tomorrow. It cost me around £20 for the larger of the two kits available (the smaller trial kit costing £11) and this seemed a fair price at the time. There is nothing similar to this tooth whitening system out on the market so there did not appear any cheaper alternative. I was happy to pay this price to the friendly lady in Boots who told me she had used this before and found it a very good product.
As I say the kit has been in my cupboard for a little while now and when I first bought it I used it fairly regularly. It states on the box that there are around 45 treatments in the box so I suppose I must be coming up for having done that many as the kit is nearly gone. Inside this kit you get a few different tubes and products they are as follows:
- A clear plastic gum shield to apply the gel to and stick in your mouth for a period of time
- A tube of whitening toothpaste, 50ml
- A Funny shaped tube with application pad to apply the accelerator liquid, 6ml A tube of whitening gel, 50ml
- Instructions booklet and
- Teeth shade guide where you can hold the chart up to your teeth and literally see the improvement in shades!
The instruction booklet inside the pack is pretty thin but it basically and simply explains a step-by-step account of what it is that has to be done and how it is to be carried out. This is written clearly so that anyone would be able to follow the instructions easily and this booklet I found very helpful. I am not one for usually reading these instruction booklets but I thought the first time I should know exactly how the manufactures say to use it to get the best effect possible.
Ok, the first thing that must be done is to give the teeth a good clean it does say gently however in the booklet and I guess this is because any broken skin on the gums would result in mild irritation by the product you are about to use. I use my electric toothbrush that cleans exceptionally well and my normal toothpaste so as not to use all the Rapid White Whitening toothpaste up too quickly.
After you have cleaned the teeth the next thing to do is to prepare the gum shield ready for use. This means applying a thin layer of gel to the shield I tend to stick very close to the inside parts pf the shield and only put a small amount in otherwise when you put it into your mouth the gel all leaks out and really does not taste pleasant at all. Be warned! You need to prepare the shield first because the next step has to be done and the shield ready to go in quickly so it is always best to do it in this order to get the best use from the kit.
The little whitening accelerator then needs to be used so the screw cap comes off and after giving it a good shake the padded application end needs to be applied to every tooth you are wanting to whiten (these would be the main lot at the front, the ones people can see as you cant really whiten the back ones with this kit). You have to be careful not to close your mouth after applying this accelerator otherwise the liquid will be rubbed off and the whole thing will not work as well as it could.
The gum shield then needs to be inserted into the mouth carefully so as to not get the grim tasting gel all over ones face! The instructions state that the shield then needs to be left from anywhere between 5 to 10 minutes but in my view this just wasnt long enough for the effect that I wanted. I give it a good 20 minutes before I take out the shield and for me I find that this works better but I have left it in longer than this before and noticed my gums did begin to get slightly irritated by the gel so quickly took it out.
After taking the shield out the next and final step is to use the whitening toothpaste provided to clean away all the gel and bring up the teeth to a final white shine. The gel really does cling to the gums and the thick sensation of having it there really turned my stomach it would have been good if they had made the gel into some flavour rather than just medicated taste!
The first time I tried this kit and after the final brushing step, I took a good look at my teeth and they did appear lovely and clean, my gums lovely and pink but the effect was certainly not instantaneous. They were not overly bad before but I think they did appear slightly better. That time I continued to do the kit every 3 to 5 days and within a couple of weeks I could certainly say that there was a vast improvement with the colourings of my teeth.
So I have done this once this week and I think I will be doing it again sometime today. It feels as though I am never going to go into labour so I bet I will have the chance to do it a few more time before any photographs are taken. By then I would think I should have my smile to the brightness I desire.
This Rapid White Tooth Whitening System really does work and is a very good product. You of course have to be patient and remember to use the kit more often to keep the smile looking bright. When you do stop using it, it doesnt seem to take long for the greyness to start coming back in. However with a good regular use along side normal twice a day teeth brushing you can really see the difference with using this kit.
The price is reasonable for the amount of uses that you do get out of this kit. I did not find it irritating especially if you stick to the time limits given in the exceptionally good leaflet and most importantly of all it really does work well!
Recommended to all especially those who want to put the shine back in their smile!!!
