Advantages: Helps protect the enamel on your teeth!

Disadvantages: Expensive.

I normally use whatever toothpaste is on offer, however I have always suffered with chronic mouth ulcers, I get them every week without fail. After my Doctor had run tests to rule out any underlying medical condition it was suggested to me that an ingredient found in most toothpastes has been shown in studies to cause mouth ulcers. The ingredient is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, it is found in the majority of toothpastes and it is used as a foaming agent.

I looked at a lot of toothpastes to find one which didn't contain this ingredient and eventually I came across Sensodyne Pro namel. A tube of this costs £3 for 75ml in most supermarkets.

The toothpaste is designed to help protect your teeth from acid erosion caused by acids in everyday foods. These types of foods and drinks cause a breakdown of the enamel in the teeth causing them to become weak and sensitive. Sensitive teeth are often a sign of this acid erosion. The toothpaste also contains all the ingredients of a regular toothpaste so it will also provide fresh breath and protect against plaque and tartar build up.

The toothpaste is suitable for use for over 12 years of age only. You can brush 2-4 times a day with this toothpaste.

Like most people the majority of the time I brush my teeth twice a day. The toothpaste on the brush was white and looked like any other toothpaste. I only needed a small amount and it was sufficient to clean my whole mouth. The toothpaste tasted strange, I think it has a hint of vanilla to it as well as subtle mintiness. The taste wasn't unplesant but it's certainly not like a normal toothpaste.

I have been using this for 2 weeks and so far so good. After use it does leave a strange coating on your teeth which feels strange for the first few days but you get used to it. It cleans my teeth really well and leaves my mouth feeling clean and fresh. I don't have sensitive teeth so I can't comment on whether this element of the toothpaste works, although my hygienist did tell me that I had signs of acid erosion and this toothpaste could help prevent it worsening.

I haven't had a mouth ulcer for over 2 weeks now. This is great for me as I don't normally go more than a few days without one. This toothpaste so far is making a difference and I will update in a few weeks to see if I think it has worked.

I would recommend this to protect your teeth, it is a lot more expensive than other toothpastes however I am all for looking after my teeth so it is a small price to pay and a tube lasts me a good month or so with twice daily brushing.

Summary: Has a strange taste but does the job
