Advantages: Effective, nice flavour, reasonable price

Disadvantages: None for me

Mouthwash never used to be an essential for me, but I started using it last year and wouldn't be without it now. It helps my mouth feel much fresher and cleaner, and has all sorts of benefits for my teeth. I'm not loyal to any particular brand, and am happy to buy whatever's on offer.

I've been shopping in Superdrug a lot more recently, partly because of the new Beautycard. Last time I was in there I picked up two 500ml bottles of mouthwash for £2.99 as they were on special offer, though the standard price of £1.99 per bottle didn't seem too bad either. I chose two different kinds of mouthwash: the one I'm going to review today is the Totalcare 6 in 1 Mouthwash.

As the name 6 in 1 suggests, the mouthwash is designed to carry 6 benefits in one product: The benefits are: protects enamel, prevents cavities, fights plaque, strengthens teeth, keeps gums healthy, fights germs. The mouthwash is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, and has been BUAV approved with the bunny logo - this means that it has not been tested on animals. This is a Superdrug own brand product and carries the message that Superdrug is against animal testing. The mouthwash can be recognised on the shelf by the white cap and the bright purple liquid inside.

When using the mouthwash, I find the minty flavour to be strong, but manageable - not as strong as brands like Listerine, for example. It would suit someone who can't cope with really strong flavours of mouthwash but who doesn't want a really mild one. My mouth always feels fresh and clean after use, and lasts in some form or other for a good proportion of the day.

The problem with mouthwash is that it's really hard to tell if it's fulfilling its claims - I have no idea, for example, whether it is fighting plaque and protecting my enamel. All I can say is that it seems to be helping to keep my mouth healthy: I've had no problems since I've started using it, and see no reason to stop.

Altogether, this seems like a really decent mouthwash and, as it's available at a very reasonable price, is certainly something I'd repurchase.
