A good toothpaste thats not far off the leading brands

I will rarely be loyal to any one branded product when it comes to most household items, however I have never strayed beyond branded toothpaste before, always sticking to the likes of colgate or aquafresh. In an effort to keep the grocery bill down, plus having had success with other supermarket branded products in the past and found them to often be just as good as the leading brand, I decided to give this Tesco pro-tech complete toothpaste a go, as it was priced at £1, and can currently be purchased as part of a 3 for 2 deal. What made it more appealing at the time, was there no other good toothpaste offers on and I needed toothpaste, which is why this product at £1 stood out, and made me sway from my usual purchases.

This particular Tesco toothpaste comes in a freshmint flavour, although as far as I am aware there is a whiteneing product in the same line as this from Tesco. The packaging of this product is more upmarket that its very basic toothpaste, in an obvious attempt to sway the consumer into purchasing a product that looks from the outside to be as good quality as the likes of colgate. On the front of the box, it states that this is a flouride toothpaste, which 'helps fight cavities, plaque and gum problems. It also states that it offers an 'all day antibacterial effect' . What also caught my attention on the box was that this toothpate as been approved by the British Dental Health Foundation, and has its seal of approval displayed, and I have to say that this is quite reassuring, especially since I do like to take care of my teeth, which is probably why I never strayed beyond branded toothpastes before.

On the side of the box, there are further claims to be made including the fact that this toothpaste should 'prevent tartar formation' and also 'freshen breath'. It is supposedly the combination of the antibacterial system, flouride and fresh mint flavour that work together to protect against decay and promote fresh breath and healthy gums.

There is nothing fancy about this toothpaste when you squeeze it out of the tube, in fact it is purely white in colour. Although it says that it is freshmint, I didn't particularly like the smell that it produced when I put it on my toothbrush, however I got over that pretty quickly, as you can taste the freshmint feeling in your mouth when you actually start brushing with it, and it is in no way off putting then.

I have been using this product for a couple of weeks now, and haven't changed anything about the way and length of time I clean my teeth, but it seems to keep them clean and feeling clean and fresh. I don't feel after scrubbing my teeth, that there is any noticeable residue left on my teeth, and I do feel that it helped to get rid of the plaque that has built up over the day.

I am a bit of a stickler for fresh breath, and I hate morning breath, so much so that even after my teeth have been cleaned in the morning, on the way to work, I am always popping a few mint tictacs into my mouth. The one thing that I have noticed over the past couple of weeks of using this toothpaste, is that i haven't always felt the need to get a tic tac into my mouth, as my mouth seems to feel fresh, and I don't sense any bad breath in my mouth. I know that may sound daft, but I am quite conscious, and I have simply found that I haven't been as quick to reach for the tic tacs, leading me to conclude that this toothpaste does live up to its claim to keep breath fresh.

All in all, although I probably do prefer the taste of the likes of aquafresh or colgate, there is no problem with this, apart from the initial smell when opening the lid of the tube. Since using this every day for the last couple of weeks, I feel my teeth are just as clean as they would be when using any other product including the branded toothpastes and in anything, I think it keeps my breath fresher for longer. I would definitely purchase this again, although there will always be a part of me that will still pick up colgate or aquafresh when there are good offers on them, but when there isn't I will happily buy this toothpaste as an alternative.
