      Mouthwash for children

      Tesco Total care mouthwash

Thankfully Little Miss quite enjoys cleaning her gnashers, and because she always wanted some of my mouthwash, but since it's for adults, I started buying her mouthwash just for her.

      ~~What is it?~~

The "special2 formula mouthwash has been developed with fluoride to help strengthen children's teeth .

      ~~Product and Packaging~~

The mouthwash comes in a 300ml plastic bottle with a screw on/off cap. I like the fact that it's smaller than the usual mouthwash bottles because it means it's less unwieldy for her to hold.

The mouthwash itself is pink, so instantly appealing to Little Miss, and when I open the lid, there is a spearmint smell; although it says that it's coolmint, it's definitely spearmint. Similarly, the mouthwash tastes of spearmint but is very mild, and after it has been used, there is no strong after taste, and certainly no burning sensation which can happen with some strong mouthwashes. It does leave my mouth feeling clean and refreshed rather like having a mint but without the sugary sensation.

      ~~How to use it~~

The product has a shelf life of 6 months once the bottle has been opened, which is quite long enough; with regular brushing, this doesn't last anywhere close to the 6 months mark. It is advised that it not for children under the age of 6 years, possibly because it's more difficult to ensure they don't swallow the stuff.

Adult supervision is required to minimise swallowing, but basically, it's like all mouth washes, rinse mouth with a capful of the mouthwash and then spit out.

      ~~Price and Availability~~

This costs £1.26 and can be bought at Tescos online or in store.

      ~~Verdict~~

This is a good mouthwash for children. The fact that it's not overly strong means that they will keep using it, which is obviously a bonus. I take it as read that it has the ingredients to keep her teeth healthy, because I can't see the fluoride, so can't vouch for its existence. However, up to now, we have had no fillings, and no teeth trouble. Since she is at the age where her milk teeth are falling out, it's reassuring to know that the mouthwash will keep not just her teeth healthy but also the gums.

      A good value mouthwash.

      Thanks for reading.
