Advantages: Very affordable, disposable toothbrush?
Disadvantages: Lots of corners cut and not a long-term oral care product.
The Tesco Value Toothbrush is probably the product that made my mind up about budget oral healthcare products - it really is better to spend a little more. Value products have their limitations. They have to be manufactured at ridiculously low cost and obviously due to this they will rarely be able to compete with branded products. The Tesco Value Toothbrush is no exception, and priced at 20p for a twin pack you may be forgiven for thinking that they could turn out to be a value buy - what do you have to lose?!
The packaging is basic. The mainly plastic packaging with cardboard backing is typical for this kind of product and the clean white finish does lack attractiveness. There is nothing to draw the customer in, but there are never any gimmicks in value products. The toothbrushes are also plain white, with white bristles aswell. The only colour on the packaging is the Tesco logo and the simple wording 'Twin Pack Toothbrush'.
As the price is so very cheap you really have to wonder how they make them for so little. Either that, or branded products have a massive markup! The toothbrushes are very basic in design, with a boring white head and handle and styling that hasn't had much thought put into it. There are no rubber grips on the handle or flexible heads in sight here, just a hard plastic handle and stiff bristles.
The result of these cheaply made toothbrushes results in a poor experience. The toothbrush is unforgiving and left my gums bleading on occassions. The effect the brushing had on my teeth and gums was very harsh. The bristles are not contoured and are of a uniform length and overall I think this product had an adverse effect on my oral hygiene.
The Tesco Value Toothbrush isn't a product I would recommend in all honesty. However, I think these would make an acceptable accessory for taking on holiday with you or for a short break away. At this price they can be replaced very cheaply and you can afford to replace them more regularly. For longer term use I advise you spend a bit more money on a decent quality toothbrush that has been designed more ergonomically for a better brushing experience.
Summary: I wouldn't use this product long-term but it would be okay for holidays.
