One of the better products out there

As I work in a very public environment dealing with hundreds of people per day I am always worried that the stench from my dinner will stick on my breath and therefore from time to time invest in products just as this to counter act that issue. It doesn't help that am mad keen on fish and onions for dinner as well as the smelliest crisps so I need something effective and long lasting and after trying a wide range of products I found this to be one of the most effective out there. I picked them up for £1.50 from Amazon using some vouchers I had and have since purchased further packets.

These Amplex Fresh Breath Capsules are small round yellowy tablets and come with the added bonus of being sugar free so aid those who are reading labels and watching their weight. Additionally the box makes the point of advertising that the product does not do any damage to the teeth.

They come in a while plastic box and I have seen them retailed around for around £2 which is competitive compared to other products and can be purchased cheaper if you look about online. According to the box the capsules are specially designed and that are particularly designed to combat strong foods, drinks and smoking. As a non smoker of course I cannot comment on the last factor but the other two are key factors for me.

The main question is whether or not this product works. After using a full packet, which involved using two capsules per day for around 3 weeks, I found it to be effective. The taste was strong and noticeable as well as being long lasting. Products of this range tend to fade quickly and don't freshen the mouth but these do and in terms of performance I have no complaints. They out at an end to my worries about bad breath at work and are a good short term alternative to brushing teeth and work better than standard chewing gum.

The only one complaint is with the annoying packaging which often means the tablets get stuck in the spout that pours them out and it needs shaking and prodding to remove. Certainly not as effective a packet as say Smints.

All in all a worthwhile product that does the job of freshening the mouth and breath with a strong, vibrant minty flavour.

      A good product

In the quest for that perfect long lasting minty fresh feeling I have tried many products. Polos are too sweet and sugary, Extra Strong Mints are addictive, but sooo bad for your teeth. Kendal Mint Cake is really lush, but again so sugar packed that even the merest whiff is enough to make you put on 10lbs.

Amongst current favorites are Smints with their instant minty kick, but its still nice to go back to old favorites like Amplex which have over the years been a tried and tested way to get a quick burst of minty freshness when you most need it.

      **********************************************************
Amplex Fresh Breath Capsules in their original form are round and slightly orange/ yellow toned. They are sugar free, so low in calories and just one is enough to give you that freshness boost that you want. They have a very distinctive taste that seems almost unique when compared to other similar products.

The Peppermint Amplex variety are way nicer in my opinion and the peppermint kick they give seems to be a little fresher than the original flavour and leaves a cooler aftertaste. The amount of peppermint is just right, neither too strong or too week and the effects last just enough to stop you popping too many capsules.

      **********************************************************
The container that the product comes in is made of white plastic with the Amplex name clearly displayed on the front of the label. The pack style has changed over the years, but is now a little more awkward to open and use than the older style push and click dispenser, which is a shame.

Price wise you can expect to pay £1.99 to £2.49 for a pack with both varieties being the same sort of price. Both are sugar free and are meant to be able to mask and neutralize the effects of strong tastes such as garlic and coffee. The blurb also claims to do the same for smokers breath, but I cannot comment on the effectiveness of that aspect.

      **********************************************************
The blurb on on the packs does say that the product contains Xylitol which it a tooth friendly sweetener, which means that Amplex Breath Freshener Capsules should in theory not cause any damage to your pearly whites.

Some quick info about Amplex here:

The makers say Amplex are: Anti smoking, Anti garlic, Anti plaque. Sugar free and low in calories. They also say that Amplex contains a unique formulation that fights the effects of odours caused by eating, drinking and smoking.

      **********************************************************

I feel that Amplex can offer a quick solution for those moments when you cannot clean your teeth or use a mouthwash. They do give a short lived minty freshness and have a pleasant taste.

They are handy to keep, for those who either do not like gum or cannot chew it, which are other alternatives that you may want to try. I rather like them and will continue to buy them on and off. My rating for them is 4 stars, as the newer packs are not as easy to open as the older ones were.

Sack the designer and sue him for loss os sales to the company caused by him

I have used Amplex capsules for at least 20 years and think they are the best breath freshener around. However, the company have redesigned the container with a spring type dispenser which is a total disaster. My wife does not have the strength to pull the lever back to release the capsules. I can do it occasionaly, but of late I have to prise open the container with a screwdriver, and put all of the capsules into a small metal tin and use that as the dispenser. I also buy alternative products from Boots and other retailers. Amplex must have lost a lot of business by this complete disaster of dispenser design. The old type of recangular dispenser was certainly a lot more easy for the user than the current one

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Too difficult to pop out a capsule therefore not worth buying

Amplex Breath Freshening Capsules can not under any circumstances all pop out of the hole because they vary in size causing a large one to completely block the hole. I use a screw driver to split open the container then store them in a sensible carton. Whenever possible, I buy a different make to save this extra chore but Amplex do seem to have the monopoly. Years ago, their original style small container was also ridiculously designed and I wrote to the firm to complain but didn't even get a reply! Tesco came to the rescue then with a very sensible package for their own breath freshener but they no longer sell them.

Amplex Packaging - bad breath is the least of your problems

The packaging on Amplex Breath Freshening Capsules is the worst example of design that I have ever encountered!
Not only is it overly complicated, it just doesn't work. You struggle with a spring loaded cap that hurts your thumb, but the little blighters just don't pop out. After repeated squeezing and swearing you then get 3 at once.
I imagine that it's expensive to produce too.
Someone, somewhere got paid to design this blunder. Wonder if they still have a job?

        Extract Didget please.

        AMPLEX CAPSULES

The new anti-dispenser-dispensers are a no - no.
I checked with Sainsbury's Chemists at their flagshi[p branch and they agreed. They recommend alternative products which I don't want.
Obviously the Executives at AMPLEX have not tried out the dispensers. Please will someone put in an eMail address for me to send my complaint to.
I can see why so many National firms never want their addresses made available in case complaints would have to be registered.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Good product........Bad new packaging

I have used Amplex for many years, partly as a deterrent for halitosis, partly as an 'anti-alcohol-odour' medium. Recently, I have seen a change in the packaging for this item — presumably as an anti-overdose potential. I feel, however, that it is an 'anti-sales potential', because I find that the only way that I can access the spherical objects is to burst open the casing, which has the potential to spill the contents on the pavement / floor / surface on which I am walking.
This new kidney-shaped container, with the potential (I use the word tentatively)to issue one 'pill' at a time, usually results – after 8 – 10 attempts – in causing the above action of bursting open the casing and negating the 'design' aspect of the new packaging.
What happened to the old, tried and true, 'if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it' rectangular container which seldom, if ever, failed to 'deliver the goods'? Why do I have to pay for a unit which costs more and doesn't work?? Can I still get the old system by paying less? Can I still get the old system, which worked, and if not, why not??
Progress is only helpful if it is advantageous to the user, and I have felt over the last three purchases that your 'progress' is no help at all. New Labour people say that life is in progress, but many other people disagree............ or would that analogy not fit........?
