      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      -

Indigestion and heartburn isn't something that my other half or I suffer from very often but it is always wise to have something in for that occasional bout (normally when I have overdone the chilli in a curry). Gaviscon is the brand which I keep in the cupboard.

I tend to buy the smaller 150ml bottle so the description of the bottle is based on this. My most recent one cost me £3.70 from Boots

The bottle is fairly easy to open and does have an inner seal so you know if it has been tampered with or not. The large cap is easy to get a grip on so those with dexterity problems should also be able to open this with little difficulty. The label and instructions etc. come in layers which does do away with the far too easily lost paper instructions. On the top layer there is also an area of braille as well although this is not repeated on the other layers of the label. The cap is not a child proof one so although this is not exactly dangerous it would be wise to keep it well out of the reach of young children.

      Using:

I find this liquid format far better than the gaviscon tablets which are also available as I don't like the really chalky texture of the tablets. Also I prefer this one to the mint ones as I find the mint ones tend to taste a bit too much like toothpaste.

After giving it a good shake open and pour onto your tea spoon. The liquid is quite thick and a fairly bright pink (not my favourite colour). There is no strong smell to it which is always a good thing. Whilst the taste isn't really reminiscent of real aniseed it is still reasonably pleasant. This difference in flavour is because it does not actually contain any aniseed but rather fennel flavour instead. Fennel does taste similar to aniseed but not exactly the same. There is a slight chalkiness to the taste and texture but as long as it does the job I can live with this as it is no-where near as bad as the tablets. The taste does linger for a while after taking it as does that slight chalkiness but that is not a big issue for me as a glass of water normally takes care of that chalkiness. The after taste is not strong and it doesn't change the taste of anything you eat or drink after tasking it.

I find that this does the job that it is sold for. Ok it isn't as instant as it appears to work on the adverts but the pain associated with indigestion and heartburn is relieved within a few minutes normally after just one dose and it normally keeps it away as well which is a big plus. Can I feel it coating my oesophagus (sorry, my biology A-level does come back to haunt me at times) as it goes down? Well, no not really but the relief it brings from heartburn is certainly noticeable.

      Summary:

Simply put this product works for me and I will buy it again although it is a bit expensive.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

It works well for me so I will stick with this one

I actually bought this Gaviscon in the aniseed flavour by mistake as I had intended to buy the peppermint flavour which is the one I usually have. I do suffer with heartburn and indigestion so I like to make sure that I always have a bottle of this in and I had ran out completely so I bought this along with my weekly shopping from Tesco and paid £5.50 for 300ml. You can also get it in a larger 600ml size bottle which is around £7.20 but for both sizes if you look out for chemists or supermarkets which have special offers on this sort of product you may get it cheaper than this.

Gaviscon is made to bring fast and soothing long lasting pain and relief from the discomfort of heartburn and acid indigestion. It can also be used to treat gastric reflux and flatulence which is good to know! It is recommended that adults and children over 12 years of age take two to four 5ml spoons ideally after eating and again at bedtime, and children between the ages of 6 and 12 take one to two spoonfuls.

It does not have a child proof lock so you need to be careful where you store it, especially as the liquid is a bright pink colour which could be appealing to a young child. It is quite gloopy in consistency and it does not drip off the spoon easily if you are using a spoon to take however I will usually just drink it out of the bottle and will have one or two swigs according to how severe my symptom are.

It wasn't until I went to take some a few weeks ago that I realised that I had picked up the aniseed one and I really thought I wouldn't like it as I am not keen on aniseed, however I was pleasantly surprised as the flavour isn't too strong and didn't really linger in my mouth afterwards, although I could feel the coating that you get from any Gaviscon liquid. I know everyone reacts differently to medicine but this does work very quickly for me and I can feel a difference after just a few minutes. The hot burning sensation started to fade and the pain which I get down my tubes subsided quickly. If I feel that I need some more I will sometimes take another swig but more often than not I only have to use it once.

You can get other similar medicines which are cheaper but I am happy to stick to Gaviscon. At the end of the day I want something that I know will work quickly and effectively and this does for me. I don't really have a preference for which flavour I like best having tried them all now, but will just buy the one which is the best value at the time.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Good for heartburn, shame about it tasting funny

As I said previously in one of my reviews, I suffered from really bad heartburn during both my pregnancy's, and during my last pregnancy my midwife recommend this to me. I thought I would give it a shot instead off taking lots of rennies.
At boots this is currently priced at 3.70 for a 150ml bottle, £5.59 for a 300ml bottle or £8.99 for a 600ml bottle. You can buy this from most supermarkets, boots and superdrug, I don't recall ever seeing it on offer either. In the bottles there's a choice off three flavours in the bottle form which are original aniseed, peppermint and mint.

          What Gavison say
Gaviscon Original has a soothing effect, lasting for up to four hours. And because it doesn't enter the bloodstream it is suitable to use during pregnancy.
Gaviscon Original contains sodium alginate, which is derived from seaweed, and is classed as an 'alginate' which means that it forms a 'raft' in the stomach which helps prevents acid coming back up into the oesophagus (food pipe). As such it is effective at treating the classic symptoms of heartburn (a burning pain in the chest and mild acid regurgitation). It can be used to treat gastric reflux (a condition in which the acid stomach contents flow upwards into the foodpipe) and flatulence caused by gastric reflux.
          How to Use
          For oral administration.
Adults and children over 12 years: take 10-20ml (two to four 5ml spoonfuls) at meals and at bedtime.
Children 6 to 12 years: take 5-10ml (one to two 5ml spoonfuls) after meals and at bedtime.

The bottle is a brown glass bottle with a screw cap, the cap is not child proof, so if you have small children keep this out of reach!
The liquid is a pink colour, It has a slight aniseed smell, which doesn't smell too strong, it has a slight medicine smell aswell to it.
I wouldn't say this liquid is quite thick or thin, just right, but after you have swallowed it, it does leave a nasty taste in your mouth with is not pleasant. If you have ever seen the tv ads, they show it being swallowed, and after there is a cooling sensational and this is true because as soon as it is in your throat you can feel a cooling feeling and does seem to target heartburn straight away. I also noticed with this after you have swallowed it there is a coating with is left in your mouth with a bitter chalky after taste. Every time I had this I made sure I had water nearby for a drink after.

As I was suffering all the time, I used this 4 times a day, I normally had the 20ml dose and it seems to last for over 3 hours. It really did help me during some rough spells of heartburn.

I left this in my cupboard for about a week (forgot I had it), when I went back to it, swallowed some, and it tasted like the most disgusting fishy tasting thing ever, it did actually make me be sick. Since then I have never had Gaviscon again, I'm not too sure why to this day it tasted like fish, but there was a slight fishy smell to the bottle after.
The only reason why I'm making this down is because of the fish taste after a week.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

No need to suffer in silence Gaviscon is an effective remedy for heartburn

          Gaviscon Original Aniseed

I thankfully do not often suffer from heartburn, but when I do get it I want rid of it easily and quickly. I have a bottle of Gaviscon in my health cupboard for when these occasions do arise to relieve the symptoms of heartburn and indigestion.

          The Packaging

Gaviscon comes in three different sizes, a 150ml; 300 ml and larger 600 ml glass bottle. The bottle is a dark brown shade that allows you to see the level of liquid inside. The bottle lid is a white plastic tightly sealed screw cap mechanism. The Gaviscon label is very recognisable, being a turquoise and blue colour with a torso silhouette image and a flame over the heart to represent heartburn. The Gaviscon branding is a bold white font and the bottle is highly detailed with text about the product.

          The Product

As mentioned above Gaviscon is intended for the rapid relief of heartburn and indigestion. It can also be used by people who suffer from gastric reflux, which is a condition where the stomach acid leaks out of the stomach and into the oesophagus. All of these conditions can cause considerable discomfort and pain and is commonly experienced after eating, or gorging food in my case!

The Gaviscon liquid is a very pale pink/white colour and smells of aniseed, as is the intended flavour of the product. The liquid is reasonably runny and goes down easily on intake. When I start feeling the effects of heartburn I take two 5ml spoonful's of this and wait for the medicine to kick in. The taste is rather nice and sweet, I am not a huge fan of aniseed flavours but this is just the right amount and I feel it soothing my throat and stomach on the way down.

The relief from heartburn is not immediate, but after ten to fifteen minutes I can feel the Gaviscon start to take effect. My heartburn pain and discomfort begins to subside and after half an hour or so disappears altogether. As I have said I don't often get heartburn but when I do I head straight for this bottle.
Gaviscon state that this soothing effect can last for up to four hours.

          Active Ingredients

          Sodium alginate
          Sodium bicarbonate
          Calcium carbonate

This product is available in most supermarkets, pharmacies and chemists and typically costs £3.60 for the 150 ml, £5.50 for the 300 ml and £7.20 for the 600 ml. Well worth the money if you suffer from heartburn and indigestion.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          works well and tastes nice

When I was pregnant with my first son I suffered terrible heartburn and would get through litre upon litre of Gaviscon to keep the feeling at bay. I always stuck to the peppermint flavour as I never really fancied this aniseed one. Aniseed is a flavour that I really like but I was concerned that it would be a 'hot' flavour and not brilliant for heartburn. However, when pregnant with my second little boy recently and again suffering from heartburn the peppermint Gaviscon that I ordered on my internet shop was substituted for this aniseed one. Faced with the choice of aniseed flavour or no remedy, I was forced to accept this.

The liquid comes in a thick brown glass bottle with a white lid that screws on and off. Unlike most medicines, this lid is not of the child proof variety so you need to be extra careful with storage. The label around the bottle pictures the outline of a body with a ball of fire where the heart would be. The bottle contains 300ml of the liquid and costs between £5 and £6.

The liquid is said to have a soothing effect on heartburn and acid indigestion. As is doesn't enter the blood stream, it is safe for use during pregnancy. It contains sodium alginate which is derived from seaweed and this 'forms a raft in the stomach which helps stop acid coming back up into the food pipe'. To take, you take two 5ml spoonfuls after meals and at bedtime.

Inside the bottle is a thick, creamy liquid that is a very pale pink in colour. On opening, there is a strong smell of aniseed which is a very distinctive smell. It is easy to pour and you are provided with a small plastic measuring spoon so that you can get the dose right. The taste is quite strong but sweet and pleasant. On swallowing, it left a nice taste in my mouth rather than being a bit chalky like I find the peppermint version (and certainly the tablets). It worked quickly to ease the discomfort of heartburn and lasted well - if I took straight after eating, it helped prevent heartburn all together.

I do find Gaviscon to be expensive in comparison to supermarket brands but it is so effective that I don't mind paying the extra. It works really quickly and lasts for several hours too. I actually prefer the aniseed variety now, having tried it, as I find the taste and aftertaste much less 'synthetic' than the mint varieties and it doesn't contribute to any burning sensation I am feeling with the heartburn as I feared it might. Overall, this is highly recommendable for anyone suffering the discomfort of heartburn.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Quick relief from heartburn

As much as I have enjoyed being pregnant for the first time, one of the annoying side effects that I have struggled with is constant heartburn. It really is quite unpleasant and at times I do have an acidic taste at the back of my throat leaving me to constantly swallow to try and get the feeling to go away. After speaking with my midwife, one of the products that she recommended was Gaviscon as apparently it would take the feeling away with no unpleasant side effects. Therefore at the weekend I went out to buy myself a bottle.

In my local Wilkinson store there were two Gaviscon products to choose from those being the tablet form and the liquid product. Being that I have struggled with swallowing tablets since the start of my pregnancy I opted for the liquid bottle as I felt this would best suit my needs. The liquid was presented in a brown glass bottle and on the front it stated that this product was suitable for sufferers of heartburn and indigestion and would provide long lasting relief. I have many a time seen the Gaviscon adverts on television and therefore was hopeful that this product would indeed completely put out the fire within and help my stomach to feel calm again.

Presentation wise, this product is good if not completely explanatory in my opinion. Although my bottle does state what ailments this liquid is designed for there is no mention of who it could be used by and therefore I did have to double check that it was suitable for pregnancy before I started taking it.

Opening the lid of my bottle via the child protected screw cap, the liquid inside is a light pink colour and has a light scent which is attributed to the aniseed ingredient. Having not used a product for heartburn before I was unsure of how much of this product to use however the bottle advises that an adult should take two to four 5ml spoonfuls at meals and at bedtime. As I seem to permanently suffer from irritating bouts of heartburn I instead chose to wait until the next bout struck. At that point I swallowed two spoonfuls of the liquid and I liked the way that the liquid has a consistency rather similar to that of my favourite childhood medicine, Calpol, although unfortunately that is where the similarities end. The taste of this product is not unpleasant but neither would I be reaching for it as readily as I would for Calpol. The flavour is that of aniseed and this gives the liquid a light peppery taste which does go down easily with its sweet and somewhat chalky flavour.

Once I had swallowed two teaspoons of this liquid I was keen to see how well it would target my acid reflux. In my opinion this product is excellent at targeting the feeling from the minute you drink it as I can literally feel the liquid running down my throat and accomplishing what feels like a cooling effect as it goes down. It does literally seem to put out the fire within in belly and does provide immediate relief from the heartburn feeling. However, to my annoyance this product did not offer a very long term solution and therefore it wasn't a very long amount of time (around thirty minutes) before the horrible feeling came back and I start to feel that acidic taste again.

I paid around £4 for a 300ml bottle of this product from Wilkinson and it is currently priced at £5.59 in Boots. Although it isn't the cheapest product around I would say that it is worth the money if only for the short term relief from acid stomach that it brings.

As a result of my review I believe that this is a great product to take for the short term effects of heartburn but it just didn't last long enough for me and therefore I would have to deduct one star. I would recommend this product although I will be looking for other ways to reduce my heartburn which last longer term.

I hope this review has been of help and thanks for reading! x

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A really good product that does what it is designed to.

          GAVISCON ORIGINAL ANISEED LIQUID

I have suffered from acid reflux since I was in my teens, I actually have IBS and Gastric Reflux and as a result I suffer from a lot of acid. I do take a prescription medication to try and control it however they frequently need a little top up and one of the best products to help with this is Gaviscon.

Gaviscon is available in many forms these days but the first product they produced was a thick aniseed flavoured liquid, this is still widely available now and is the product I am reviewing today.

          THE PACKING ....

The original Gavison comes in two different sizes, a 600ml bottle and 300ml, both bottles are made from a very thick dark brown glass and have white twist lid. Something I do notice is that he cap is not the usual safety cap you find on medication but a simple twist cap. The body of the bottle has a label in the well known greeny/blue Gaviscon colour along with the outline of a persons torso with a small image of a fire in their stomach area. Across the middle of the label is the brand name of the product along with the flavour which varies in colour depending upon which flavour you choose to purchase. The Aniseed one is pink in colour. Below this is a brief description of what the product does and contains. To the left of the label are clear instructions of dosage to take and to the right the storage information and any safety warnings.

The label also has brail print around it.

          ABOUT THE PRODUCT ....

As previously discussed the product is used to treat heart burn and indigestion, it contains Sodium Alginate, Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Carbonate, the products work by simply providing a protective layer on the contents of the stomach and helps stop the contents from refluxing into the oesophagus.

The original Aniseed liquid is a very thick pale pink liquid that tastes of a slightly sickly Aniseed flavour.

To take the product you simple measure the required dosage into a measuring spoon and take, it is suggested to take after meals and before bed time but can be taken as required as long as you do not exceed the safe stated doses. (Please see label or your doctor regarding dosage)

          DOES IT WORK? ....

Yes the product works really well, I usually find it starts working in about 20 to 30 mins and lasts several hours.

          PRICE ....

The 600ml bottle is currently on sale in boots for £8.99 and the 300ml bottle for £5.59

          SUMMARY ....

I do find this liquid a little sickly and usually buy the peppermint however this was all the local pharmacy had last time I was in there, I also find it very thick and it can be a little odd feeling as it goes down the throat which I know can be a problem for some people. However I do find the liquid is far more effective than the tablets, it coats as it goes through the system and provides a faster acting effect so I usually have a bottle on the go for when I am home and only use the tablets when I am away from the home.

I can not really say that the taste is bad enough to deduct a star as the product really performs perfectly and does what it is supposed to, at the end of the day medication is not intended to taste nice simply more palatable and this is what it does so for me I have to give this product a 5 stars out of 5.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

Give heartburn and indigestion the treatment, with Gaviscon!

            WHY DID I NEED IT?

Sporadically I do experience spells of both heartburn and indigestion, so I thought it was about time to move away from the usual either just get on with it or try and take paracetamol, so I decided to buy a bottle of Gaviscon Original to see if this could solve the problem when it arose.

            PRICE AND WHERE TO BUY

The product itself is widely available throughout major retailers and chemists in the UK, and I paid around £5 for a 540ml bottle of the mint flavoured Gaviscon, which represents excellent value in my eyes.

            THE PRODUCT

The product itself comes in a large brown bottle with a child safe screw top (one of those ones that you need to push down and turn at the same time), which is an excellent safety measure if you have children running around. The version of the Gaviscon I purchased was the minty flavoured one, which I find thoroughly refreshing and soothing too - it is available in aniseed flavour also but I find this taste an acquired one (which I really don't like), and this leaves a strong aniseed flavour afterwords which I personally do not like.

The solution itself is a light grey/white colour and is thick rather than runny, meaning it can easily be extracted from the bottle onto a spoon for oral administration. Once administered, you can feel the product working its magic down your throat and into your stomach, where is has a cooling and soothing effect which relieves both the symptoms of heartburn and acid indigestion.

            USAGE

The usage advised on the bottle is to take 10-20ml at meals and at bedtime, though I tend to just take it at breakfast, dinner and before bedtime when I am experiencing periods of heartburn or indigestion, or as and when needed for shorter periods of discomfort.

10-20ml amounts to between two or four small medical spoons (usually 5ml spoons) at every dosage. I find that the soothing feeling lasts for around 30-45 minutes, but then the heartburn certainly calms down and remains bearable for a good few hours after use.

            ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

Per 10ml: 500mg sodium alginate, 267mg sodium hydrogen carbonate, 160mg calcium carbonate

            OTHER INGREDIENTS

Carbomer, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), sodium saccharin, sodium hydroxide, fennel flavour, erythrosine and water.

            MY VERDICT

I always reach for the Gaviscon whenever I feel the symptoms of heartburn or acid indigestion coming on, as I know this product will fight against these symptoms and leave me feeling soothed and well again for hours - five out of five.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Not to everyones taste but works

              WHAT IS IT?

A thick liquid intended for the relief of heartburn and acid indigestion. The one I am reviewing is the Original Aniseed version and I buy this one because I think it's slightly more effective than the mint version.

              HOW DO YOU USE IT?

You should take 1 - 2 5ml spoons at the beginning of a heartburn attack but I am suffering from bad heartburn now that I am in my last month of pregnancy so am taking more than this. It is very effective and starts to soothe heartburn as soon as you swallow it, I think it's a combination of the flavour and thick texture that makes it so effective.

I like the taste but a lot of people don't, the consistency is very thick and again this is a something a lot of people can't stand. When my husband was advised to take Gaviscon for a while he had to thin it down with equal amounts of cold milk. I can usually tolerate swallowing it but if I have morning sickness I sometimes find it a bit too thick.

I buy the large 500ml bottles because that is the most cost effective way if you are using a lot to keep your symptoms under control. It costs between £6 and £8 so if you have got time you can save some money, it is also available in small handbag size bottles and I buy those too sometimes for convenience. .

              ANYTHING ELSE?

Gaviscon is safe to use during pregnancy but some small groups of people can't take it, check with your pharmacist if you're in doubt. It's good for heartburn that isn't too severe but if you have indigestion that carries on for too long it's important to see the doctor as it can point to something else more serious.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Helps with acid reflux which I unfortunately suffer from.

                Gaviscon Original.

I have a botle of Gaviscon available in my fridge for the first sign I get of indigestion, or heartburn, or acid reflux which I suffer from, certain foods can unfortunately set this off, as soon as i get a hint that I am starting to suffer with indegistion, or that horrible acid reflux I reach for this product and take initially two 5mls spoonfulls of this liquid, if it persists for a further half hour I take another couple of spoon fulls. This isnt cheap it will cost you just over £5.00 for 300mls full, but it is worth every penny for sure.

I wouldnt say that I like the taste of this medication, although it has a spearmint flavour, I just think it is thick and gloopy, and that puts me off, and it does leave a chalky kind of aftertaste in your mouth, but hey it really works, I feel so much better after half and hour has passed.

You can buy this on the shelve at any supermarket, or chemist.

I always have a bottle on handy as I do have an on going problem with acid repeating from my tummy, and that causes me a bit of pain.

This comes in a browny coloured bottle, with a blue label with Gaviscon written across the centre in white, it states peppermint liquid and states that it is used to treat heartburn, and indigestion.

It does as it states gives fast soothing relief.

It does tell you on the bottle that if symptons persist, consult your doctor. I find that it does work well for me. It gives clear instructions on how to use this product on the side of the bottle.

I have tried other remedies, and I always go back to this one as it actually works well for me.

Try it if you are suffering from indigestion, or acid reflux,it may be a bit yucky to swallow but it isnt that bad, after the after taste has faded away, you will truly benefit from this product.

Thanks for reading and rating my review.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                A great heartburn remedy

Gaviscon is a great remedy for heartburn and acid reflux, which I suffer from on a regular basis. You can buy Gaviscon in various sized bottles. I opt for the larger sized bottle as it lasts throughout the year. It keeps well too.

The liquid is pink in colour and quite thick in consistency. I pour a small amount (around five ml) onto a teaspoon and swallow it. If my heartburn isn't too bad I take a couple of spoonfuls. However, if my heartburn is really bad I take around four spoonfuls. The liquid tastes nice. It has a pleasant minty taste to it and it goes down well. It can leave a minty aftertaste in your mouth for around an hour or so but this soon disappears. I wouldn't say that the aftertaste is unpleasant, it's just rather strong.

The liquid takes around fifteen minutes or so to kick in but it offers relief from the moment you swallow it. It's lovely and soothing and it helps to relieve the symptoms of heartburn and/ or acid reflux almost straight away.

It's great value as it lasts ages. Even one spoonful can be enough to offer relief. It's widely available to buy too and you can buy it over the counter without needing a prescription.

                A fantastic heartburn remedy.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Does exactl what it says on the bottle, and more besides!

I'm not confessing to being addicted to this as i'm not, but due to a few prescribed medicines i am limited to what i can and can't have. Gaviscon is one i can and so I have taken in for a few complaints just to see if it helps. Heartburn is just one of the things i find it alleviates. I have taken it for tummy ache, indegestions, overcomsumption and anything that has plagued me to do with the digestive system It works every time. I have to say it's not pleasant to take as the liquid is thick and powdery and once in my mouth i have to force myslf to swallow. But not many medicines are plesant to consume bt knowing it will do the trick makes the unplesantness small fry. You only need a little and it does work and work fast. I have never had an side effects from it and only take it occasionally, but I alays have a bottle in the house. Good price for the fast and effective relief of symptoms. Tastes okay. Good all rounder.

                {My Thoughts}

I first became acquainted with Gaviscon 4 years ago. During the first and second trimester, I had awful heartburn. I never had morning sickness but I felt sicky and ill all day every day and due to hardly being able to eat anything without experiencing razor sharp pains in my throat, I lost 2stone. I suffered with it for so long then late on night, begged my Mum to give me something to soothe the pain. She sent my fiance to my Grans for some Gaviscon and goodness knows how long my Gran had that bottle for, but I swallowed it down with a sense of relief. Thankfully at around 20weeks, the heartburn settled and was replaced by a nasty sickness bug which resulted in me going into hospital. I do have a gorgeous toddler to show for all that pain now though!

Anyway, skip forward 4years to last week. That awful pain had returned. I quickly ruled out pregnancy despite currently trying to conceive. I believe my heartburn may have be brought on with various foods I had consumed (I'm starting a proper diet next week I promise). Anyway, the pain I experienced was far from pleasant. My throat was very uncomfortable and irritated whilst a strong, burning pain was present across my chest.

The discomfort was continuous and I felt really sicky. At one point (and I know this isn't pleasant), I could feel sick rising up my throat and it stung really bad and acidy. No amount of cold water would relieve it so I headed to my local corner shop and picked up a 150ml bottle of Gaviscon for £2.99. It certainly isn't a cheap option but I knew it would be effective.

                {Soothing The Burn}

The annoying thing about Gaviscon is the fact that it needs to be taken after food. I find thats a decent option if indigestion is your issue but for heartburn, it is safe to take whenever. As I strugged to consume any food, I opted to take Gaviscon a good 15mins prior to settling for my meal. There is no guidelines on how often in one day you can take this medicine so I suppose its down to when you feel the need to use it.

Whilst the cool mint flavour would have appealed to my personal tastes, Original Aniseed was only available at the time of purchase so I had to make do with it. Opening the bottle proves to be easy and inside, a baby pink liquid is present. Gaviscon has a slightly thinner consistency to that of Pepto Bismal (for stomach upsets) but certainly isn't as appealing in scent. The scent offered is quite strong and sweet though very medicinal. It has that aniseed ball scent with a minty edge.

On pouring the Gaviscon onto a spoon, it is a reasonably thick but fairly liquidy consistency. I usually opt for the full dosage of 20mls. As the liquid hits my mouth, it isn't all that pleasant. My preferrance is to attempt to avoid it touching my tongue or lips and aim it straight down my throat (where is the syringe when its needed?). If it hits my lips or tongue, it offers a weird, tingly sensation which I'm not keen on at all.

The quality of Gavicson becomes known as the liquid smoothly slips down the throat. As it travels down my throat, I can feel the liquid clinging onto the sides and providing immediate relief. Any burning sensation is quickly taken over my a cool, fresh relief from the Gaviscon. The liquid is very soothing and the right thickness to coat my throat but not leave it feeling clogged.

Gaviscon wastes no time in travelling down my throat and as it hits my chest, it offers a pleasing soothing sensation and any sharp, acidic feeling is relieved. Thankfully the weird, medicinal taste doesn't linger but a distinct, minty sweet trace lingers in my mouth. The effects are immediate and allow me to relax a little and have something to eat or drink without stripping the protective coating in my throat and more importantly, without causing any further discomfort. The sicky feeling went too.

I took this at various times of the course of a few days and really whenever I could feel the unpleasant sensation starting. Whilst it provided relief for a few hours, it didn't get completely rid of my heartburn. It gradually reduced and went away but it did provide me decent relief of the symptoms.

                {Conclusion}

Once again, Gaviscon has came up as a winner and done its intended job by relieving the discomfort associated with my heartburn. I managed to use the full bottle up over the course of 3days whilst storing in a kitchen cupboard in between dosages. Past experience has confirmed that the medicine can crystalize around the rim of the bottle if left open and unused for any length of time or spilled.

Overall, a top notch medicine which comes highly recommended by myself. Ideal for normal use and perfect for that pregnancy heartburn!

                Thanks for reading :)
