Buying a toothbrush isn't the most exciting thing in the world but I think it is quite an important thing. I used to just buy whatever was on offer but after a chat with my dentist about a year ago, she showed me these pictures of two sets of teeth, one was cleaned with a very basic toothbrush and one was cleaned with a higher end one and there was quite a difference between them. It was quite scary seeing the effects the wrong kind of toothbrush can have on your teeth. The brand that she recommended was Oral-B. I am not sure if there is some sort of partnership deal between them but I trusted her opinion and went in search of my perfect toothbrush.
The one I choose was this Oral B indicator toothbrush, the main reason was that it ticked all the boxes and was half price in Boots, it really is quite amazing how many different toothbrushes there are to choose from.
The only colour choice I have ever seen for this sized head is a pale green, not that the colour has any baring on the quality of the toothbrush but I do quite like the idea of co-ordinating with my bathroom.
The main feature of this toothbrush is that it tells you when you need a new one. It says on the box that a new toothbrush removes 30% more plaque than a three month old toothbrush, so it is really quite important to change those brushes regularly.
The way it works is by having a stripe of clever bright blue bristles through the middle of the head, as you use the brush these bristles fade, when they get to a duck egg blue colour it is time to buy a new brush. It does work well and gradually the bristles fade, I might be over zelous with my brushing because my bristles faded in about two months instead of the three the box suggested.
This is a good feature if you are forgetful and need a reminder to buy a new toothbrush, however for me it is just a gimmick and not really a feature I would need.
The head is quite slimline and a lot skinnier than what I was used to, this was such a benefit for me as I could get the toothbrush right to those back teeth that are sometimes hard to reach with wider toothbrushes.
It has rounded bristles that are coated with a polish, so they are gentle on your teeth and gums. This really made a difference to me, I have very sensitive gums and they used to get quite inflamed with my old toothbrush, I have had no problems since using this one.
I found that the toothbrush was soft and gentle yet got my teeth sparkly clean. I only ever buy this toothbrush now, even if it isn't on offer. I am contemplating buying an electric toothbrush but for now I have found my perfect brush.
You can buy this in most supermarkets and chemists. It usually costs about £1.75 but look out for offers as it is usually in some deal or another.
