Debt Help in General ... you have to pay your debts with. Add up the debts (non priority ones) , then work out how much to offer each of your creditors. For example , if you owe £3,000 in total and you have £30 per month left to pay them, then you offer your creditors £10 per thousand pounds that you owe. This is called apportioning fairly. Write to each creditor (addresses on the bills) and give them a list of your household expenses and income. Show them that you only have £10 per month ( for example) to offer them and ask them to accept this until your circumstances change. Don't forget to ask them to stop any interest on the account. I do this for a few of my quarterly bills and I have just set up the direct debit to come out of my current account and deduct that amount from the amount that I transfer to the 'bills account' each month. If you have a credit card balance which you are trying to pay off it is always worth keeping an eye open for special offers on interest rates. Many companies offer low rates or 0% on transferred balances usually for a period of six months. If you have a large amount outstanding on your card it may make sense to transfer your debt from one company to another so that you are always taking advantage of low interest rates. Debt Help in General ... going to have to budget now ( a word that used to scare the pants off of me) see if you can pay bills such as your Council Tax over 12 months as apposed to the 10 months that is the norm. Now that you've cut back the direct debits part of your monthly spend to a hopefully more reasonable level you need to look at what you spend on a week to week basis - can you cut back? Do you really need to spend the amount you do in the Supermarket? I'm not suggesting you starve nor forgo all those nice things you buy but Supermarket shopping was one area I did manage to cut back on and no my cupboards aren't bare - I now shop using a list and only buy from that list before I ...
