“ Brand: Carr & Day & Martin / Type: Disinfectant / Cleaning Products - Wipes „
For the past few years I have regularly competed my horses and probably the most important part of the day (other than actually riding) is the show preparation. The horses need to look as good as possible, in tip top condition. This means I have boxes of brushes and products which travel with me so when we get to the showground I have everything with me. A judge always likes a well presented horse as well as owner and it's important that you spend enough time grooming yourself and horse!
Before going into the arena/show ring etc I always wiped my horses face with a damp sponge so their face was clean and free from any dirt, dust, sweat and tear marks. However, it isn't always convenient carrying around a sponge and I looked for a product which would be handy enough to keep with me.
After doing a bit of searching I found that Carr & Day & Martin do eye and muzzle wipes. They come in a clear box in packs of 15. The wipes come in sachets and are small and thin enough to keep in your pocket. They are gentle and kind enough for the delicate eye area but tough enough to clean the horses muzzle, which when they have been working can get messy! The wipes contain gentle cleansing agents which are hygienically clean but they manage to refresh the area. They are also antibacterial. The wipes don't have a particularly strong aroma but it is perfectly pleasant, light and gentle which doesn't stay on the horse after the wipe has been applied.
The wipes are simple to use and one is only needed to clean a horses face. You just simply remove the wipe from the sachet, fully unfold and gently wipe the eye and muzzle areas. The wipes provide instant cleanliness and don't leave a residue whatsoever. Leaving a very clean and fresh faced horse!
I find these wipes incredibly useful before going into the arena as I can keep one in my jacket pocket as its small enough and it just takes the dust and grime off the horses face. Obviously it doesn't take long for the dust to reappear but it manages to keep the face clean for as long as I need it to. Once I have finished my test (dressage) my horse can look as dirty as he wants but making a good impression right at the start is important.
The 15 box of sachets last for quite some time as I only need to use one at any one time as I tend to only use them on my grey horse, as the colour of his coat shows up dirt/ dust extremely easy. I'm sure I could get away with using gentle/ sensitive baby wipes but the sachets are just so handy to have as they fit anywhere.
The Carr & Day & Martin Eye and Muzzle wipes are available in most good equestrian retailers and readily online and cost around £4.99 - £5.99 which makes them slightly on the expensive side but for convenience they are worth every penny. I would definitely recommend them if you compete or are into showing as you really do have to keep your horse sparkling clean but for everyday riding they are not worth the both, a damp sponge does just as good!
