“ Brand: Equilibrium / Type: Horse Boots / Bandages „
The range of horse related equipment I have is incredibly vast. I could probably open up my own store! However, with having three horses I have quite a lot of stuff of all shapes and sizes! Fortunately when it comes to leg wear they all tend to share which is great as I don't need three sets of boots or bandages! I am a big fan of Equilibrium products as they suit my horses. One item I have bought and liked immediately are the Stretch & Flex Exercise Bandages. They were given to me as a birthday present as I had been wanting them for a while but with needing other things which were more important these were put on the birthday list in the hope someone would get them for me!
It is important to protect the horse's legs as they can get injured easily. You can either use boots or bandages and even though I use boots I do like using bandages on my horses as even though they can be a pain to put on they can be less restrictive as boots. The Stretch & Flex Exercise Bandages have been designed by Equilibrium to reduce the build up of heat through using technological materials. For me this is ideal as my one horse sweats as soon as he sees his saddle!
The bandages offer maximum leg support whilst keeping the legs cool at the same time. The bandages are designed to allow freedom of movement which is needed when getting the horse to work correctly without them being restricted. The outer material of the bandages are made from an open weave fabric (helps with circulation of air through the bandage) which has a four way stretch. The bandages are made with Equilibrium's cool space fabric and at least 50% of the bandages have this cool space fabric which provide support and cushioning without being bulky. The cool space fabric is incredibly soft and flexible and this is what is needed to reduce the build up of heat. Best of all you don't need to put a liner underneath the bandages as you would with normal exercise bandages.
Trying to get bandages on a horse can be a bit of a hassle but with the Stretch & Flex Exercise Bandages you can get different lengths which ensure they will fit your horse correctly. They also have left and right legs so the logo will face the correct way up when you get to the end of the bandage which is incredibly useful! Should you have problems getting the bandage on there are clear instructions on how you can put the bandage on! Because of this and the correct bandage length this will minimise uneven application of the bandage which again will contribute towards fluid, free movement as there wont be added pressure on the leg.
For me, these bandages are easily applied but I did read the instructions just to make sure I was putting them on the right legs and most importantly putting them on correctly. But as I said above the logos and clear instructions make it incredibly easy and once you've put them on once you won't have a problem again. What is important is that you don't put them on too loose or too tight as this will be uncomfortable for the horse. The bandages should fit from the horse's heel to just below the knee (as shown on the picture).
When using the bandages when riding my horse I noticed he was able to really stretch his legs out without being too restricted and he was able to free his shoulders up a lot easier than when he wears boots. When I took the bandages off his legs they weren't nearly as sweaty as I they normally would be but best thing of all the bandages weren't wet either. They had cleared wicked away all the sweat and moisture which is great as horse's hate being sweaty and uncomfortable. The bandages are easily washable and just need popping into the washing machine with a mild detergent and they come up as good as new.
The Equilibrium Stretch & Flex Exercise Bandages are available in white, black, pale blue and burgundy and come in four sizes (small 2.5m, medium 3m, long 3.5m and extra long 4m). They currently cost around £24.99 which I think is a very reasonable price. They are readily available from all Equilibrium retailers both online or in store (Derbyhouse is one).
For me these are a great product and I use them regularly even throughout the winter as my horse still sweats just as much! They are east to put on and look less bulky than regular exercise bandages and are machine washable which is even better. For me these are great and I would recommend them to any horse owner as an alternative to brushing boots.
