When it comes to my grooming kit for my horses it is quite large and extensive after years and years of collecting and hoarding brushes and products. After being introduced to the Oster range of brushes my collection was now rapidly becoming taken over by Oster brushes and my old faithful brushes (which did need chucking out) were getting replaced by new and modern versions.
Oster is a company who design and manufacture grooming products not just for the equine world but also for hairdressers and barbers. They also do a range of equipment for dog groomers. Their equine range has been available in the UK now for a few years and is incredibly poplar. However, a lot of competing manufacturers have also started to copy their style.
One brush that I find incredibly useful is the Oster Stiff Grooming Brush. There is nothing worse than when your horse has rolled in mud and it is caked on to the point you think you will need to chisel it off. You generally have to use a few different brushes to try and get the hardened mud off which works but after taking a long time! This is where the Oster Stiff Grooming Brush comes in!
It is an incredibly durable body brush, it is suitable for every part of the horse, except the face. The bristles are quite thick and incredibly stiff, it certainly isn't the softest brush on the market but it's not meant to be. The stiff bristles manage to get rid of the mud with a bit of gentle force albeit leaving a bit of a dusty coat! The brush is ideal for horses who come in covered in mud and dirt but I've found it is also great to use when my horses have dried from being washed off after being ridden. For me this brush is great and rather than having many brushes to use in order to rid the horse of the dry mud this brush does the job of about five brushes all rolled into one!
The brush has an ergonomic design with a comfort grip handle which makes holding the brush incredibly easy and it doesn't hurt your hand when grooming, especially when trying to get dried mud off takes a bit of time and effort. The brush itself is incredibly durable and mine is now a few years old and looks in great condition but then I do regularly wash and clean my brushes. So far the bristles have stayed in place and none of have come out.
The Oster Stiff Grooming Brush is available at various equestrian retailers and readily available online and costs around £10.50 - £11.50 which is slightly expensive for a stiff body brush and there are cheaper options available from other manufacturers but for me I'm a big fan of Oster brushes and its tough and durable whereas other cheaper versions don't seem to last that well.
