This scoop is not just for pets, it can be used for anything. We have one for our daughters sandpit, as she loves scooping up the mounds of sand, filling her sandcastle bucket, and dumping it elsewhere. These are correctly labelled as a pet accessory, but they have many purposes around the home and garden.
The scoops are made from a thick plastic which does give way very slightly at the edges. It is very smooth and feels lightweight when holding it. I found these quite comfortable but after your hands get sweaty or wet, there isn't much grip. I wouldn't mind paying a little more if they sold them with a small rubber strip on the handle, just to make life that little bit easier.
Ours have scratches on them from just general use, these are almost entirely hair sized lines in the plastic and while noticeable, they are only small. I haven't seen a crack or hole appear in these, and dropping them on concrete, tarmac etc doesn't do any harm. They are well built and can withstand a lot of manhandling. The paint however is another story, but I'll come onto that in a second.
We have the green scoop and it's not fluorescent green but it is very bright. It has faded but still maintains a solid green colour. The tubtrugs logo on top has not faded away or rubbed off and each scoop will only be printed in black, so it stands out against the bright colours.
You can get a decent amount of sand or animal feed in the scoop, and our daughter is able to completely fill her average sized sand castle bucket with some still left in the bottom of the scoop.
To clean it takes a little bit of effort but some dettol on a kitchen towel is enough to get the bacteria off. You will need some fingers and some patience for this job. You need to get into all the corners at the bottom of the scoop and because there are so many curves and corners that dirt can get into, you should spend a little extra time going over making sure you get right inside.
I have noticed the paint start to fade on these scoops over a few months in the summer. Direct sunlight will always do some damage but these faded particularly quickly.
Overall these are great scoops, well build and multi purpose. They are about £5 depending on where you buy and if you pay postage, and they come in purple, pink, green (we have green) and grey (boring). You can buy them from Amazon, but don't expect to find these in Toys R Us. We use it for the sandpit, but you would probably find it in an equestrian shop, as these are not sold for children. That doesn't mean you can't use them for kids though, so highly recommended for a sandpit or day at the beach, or as intended use.
