      A great quarter sheet

Last weekend was the first weekend I have ridden one of my horses since I was about 4/5 months pregnant. I did clear it with my doctor first as I did have a caesarean but as the wound has healed nicely and I am no longer in any discomfort so he gave me the go ahead and just told me to be careful and if I have any pain to stop immediately. Fortunately my one horse who has plenty of issues himself is incredibly placid and docile so he was my horse of choice for my first ride as I knew he would take care of me (hopefully!). Due to my location in rural Lincolnshire I have a lot of access to open flat fields and I decided to take him out of the yard for an hour or so to roam the countryside along the bridle paths. However, last weekend was incredibly cold - freezing temperatures. Now taking my horse out of his nice warm stable and nice warm stable rug seems a bit mean so I decided to use my Weatherbeeta Fleece Quarter Sheet which would keep me warm as well as my horse while we are out. Like all of my rugs this fleece quarter sheet is produced by global horse wear manufacturer; Weatherbeeta. The fleece quarter sheet is only sold in the US and I have no idea why it isn't sold in the UK as they would be incredibly popular! I had this shipped over to me when I purchased a few other bits and pieces in the US which made the shipping charge quite low. The aim of a quarter sheet is to cover the back of the horse keeping them warm and waterproof. However, as this sheet is made of fleece it isn't waterproof so only ideal for those dry, chilly winter days. The quarter sheet is made of a warm and lightweight anti-pill polyester fleece which is incredibly light to handle and I am pretty sure the horse won't feel it on its back! The polyester fleece is breathable and wicks away any moisture should your horse get overly warm and start to sweat. The quarter sheet has a touch tape enclosure which rests over the horse's withers and has a fillet string which attaches at the back of the rug and goes under the horse's tail - this is to help keep the sheet in place. There is also a hole for where the seat of the saddle comes through. The fleece quarter sheet can be used in two ways:- 1. You place the saddle on top of the sheet and secure the saddle with the girth over the sheet. 2. You place the saddle under the sheet. The rider gets on the horse and wraps the sheet around their legs so the rider is also kept covered and warm. For me I tend to go for option 2 as I want to be warm as well! It is incredibly easy to put on as you simply put the sheet just on the horse's bum, then you get on the horse and just pull the sheet around you and fasten with the touch tape (Velcro) fastening at the front of your saddle. Simple! I have had my Weatherbeeta Fleece Quarter Sheet for around two years now and it is really a godsend on the freezing cold days as it helps keep the horse warm (especially as mine have their coats clipped) and it also helps keep me warm all at the same time!! The fleece quarter sheet comes in three sizes - pony, full and x-large. It is best to measure the horse from its shoulder to the top of the tail to get an idea of size and then you can go to the retailer who will advise which size is best to have. The colour is currently comes in is navy with hunter binding. And of course it has the Weatherbeeta oval logo stitched on. As I said above it is only produced for the US market at present which is a real shame but there are other manufacturers in the UK which make a similar product. I would definitely recommend them to all horse riders/ owners who want to keep warm this winter!
