I have just completed my Advanced diving course through Blue Dive.
The company is actually just run by one man Mark, and he has other dive instructors to help out if he gets too busy.
My course consisted of 6 dives, 1 deep dive, 1 navigation, 2 drift dives and 1 buoyancy control. The course leads on and develops your skills from the PADI learn to dive.
I went on 2 boats out to the reef, Calypso and Poseidon, both nice big motor cats that get you to parts of the outer reef from Port Douglas in about 1 1/2 hours.
Mark fully briefed me for each dive, using the advanced manual dive book and his own advice, he provided all the equipment and picked me up from my hostel so all I had to do was be awake to dive!
The dives were amazing, some had visibility of about 20m. I wasnt a very confident diver before the course, but now am very happy floating around looking at things. Today I went to 26.5m and am very happy!
Mark is a very good instructor as he makes sure youve understood everything, liases with the boat crew so we know whats going on, and helps you with your equipment. He also checks throughout the dive that your ok, and does little exercises to improve your skills.
The best part today was drift diving along a coral wall, you hardly have to move and you can drift along upside down, sideways and its the most amazing feeling of weightlessness.
I also saw 2 reef sharks, a cuttlefish and loads of tropical fish of all sizes. Including the large fish pictured for this review! He was very friendly.
My dive course with Mark cost $585 for 2 day trips out to the reef, instruction, manual, lunch, and all equipment hire. He also took an underwater camera down and took pictures of me for an extra $50, but the best thing was that I got to take lots of pictures as well.
I can really recommend Blue Dive to people who want to dive in small groups, gain any kind of diving qualification, and have a great instructor and a nice choice of boats. The boats go to reefs where no other boats are so you really are out on the reef on your own, it feels great!
