Advantages: Cheap, friendly, fun

Disadvantages: Tatty, "dodgy"

Having worked in the North Wales resort of Butlins for 3 months I know my way about the one camp pretty well but can't really compare it with any of the others.

First impressions on arriving are confused, on the one hand there are hordes and hordes of excited holidaymakers revelling with the equally manic red coats, exacerbated by the flashing neon, smells and persistent thumping of the fairground.

On the other hand , there are the drab chalets with paper thin walls, falling apart decor and often all too miserable staff - this includes the chambermaids, shop assistants and most others.

Attractions include- bars, restaurants, fast food, arcades, pretty good fairground rides and a lot of cabaret. There is an awful lot of kiddie entertainment available for the families and also , on certain weekends adult-orientated entertainment.

The nightlife is lively, and with so many staff working on site a continual source of parties.

However, crime is also ever present and often fairly violent.

You get what you pay for.
