Advantages: A brilliant experience

Disadvantages: A little expensive

I have been going to butlins holiday resorts for the best part of 20 years and still enjoy them as much today as I did back then, but for very different reasons. Obviously as a child Butlins really excelled in every way but as I got older and went through my clubbing sort of age I still found going to Butlins with friends to be a great experience. Now I have a toddler myself the whole experience has changed again and is better than ever now just because I get to see the pure joy on my daughters face as Barney walks by and things like that.

Butlins has changed considerably over the years in terms of size and quantity as well as seeing a shift in quality in entertainment. There seems to be a lot more emphasis on the Red Coats being able to sing, dance and entertain rather than just simply walking around being pleasant. This has seen a noticeable increase in performance level and subsequently a much improved night life.

Butlins took the brave decision a number of years ago to reduce the number of camps from 6 to 3 and dramatically upgrade those 3 to another level. they did this by creating the wonderful Skyline pavilions at each of the remaining 3 in Skegness, Minehead and Bognor Regis. The huge tents immediately stopped the feeling of "what do I do if it rains" and provide a central hive of activity that brings joy to all, young and old.

Having been to all 3 remaining camps a couple of times since the revamps I can honestly say that all 3 are equally as good as each other. Bognor is the base camp but Minehead provides excellence and my nearby Skegness camp provides the locality I need. The camps are laid out with minimal walking in mind if that is what you seek, but all do provide excellent scenery to take a stroll round if that takes you fancy.

You can pretty much do anything you want at Butlins. Activities include pool, snooker, tennis, bowling, football, bingo, singing and all kinds of play groups for kids. You can eat and drink in a variety of trendy or homely places. Prices are not the most competitive for food and drink but there is the option to go half or full board for your stay and this could reduce the cost significantly whilst you are there. I have been half board and found the food to be of a good standard and the restaurants to be clean and comfortable.

The staff at Butlins are what help to make the stay as good as it is. The Red Coats are renowned for their friendliness and they don't let you down and I find the bar staff and nursery staff to be well trained and very friendly too.

There really is no competition for Butlins in the UK in my opinion and I urge you all to try one of the resorts if you haven't already. The whole experience is magical for all ages.

Summary: It has no equal in the UK

Honestly, it will be very useful if you could provide basic information about Butlins. For non-British, this will not give me much information. A website might be a help.
