OK, so you're in Berlin for more than a weekend, you've done the shops, you're fed up with Sky News in the Hotel - all you want is to put your feet up in a comfy chair and watch a film...in English preferably!

Easy - go to the Cinemaxx in Potsdammer Platz.

They have about 4 - 6 screens where current films are shown in English. Look out for 'OV' on the corner of the advertising posters outside, or on their programme (available inside).

(For those of you who don't know OV = Original version and OK so you're stuffed if the OV is in French <grin>)

Seats are very comfortable, especially after a day walking round the city.

They have the usual medley of popcorn, ice cream, drinks (including beer) and don't seem to worry if you bring a bottle - I've even seen people popping open a bottle of champers!

Prices range from about 8 - 15 DM (£3-5)depending on cinema and film, day and time etc.

Check out the website for more details - www.cinemaxx.de - and select the Potsdammer Platz cinema. I've even managed to make an online booking without knowing much German.

It may be advisable to book at the weekend as it is at home, or at least if you are in the area in the afternoon collect the tickets for the evening showing, as it can get pretty busy at night.

If you have time to kill while waiting for a film to start or your train home, Arkaden, the Shopping Centre across the street, has a wicked ice-cream shop upstairs and a very good quick stop Chinese.

There’s a good choice of other restaurants and cafes around too…maybe I’ll get around to reviewing them sometime.
