Commercial Arcade is a shopping area in St Peter Port of Guernsey. It is known locally for it's jewellery shops as nearly half of the shops in the area sell jewellery. My favourite shop in the area is Jolai. This shop sells beautiful jewellery, a lot of which include Swarovski crystals. I always visit here for my mum's birthday and Christmas presents. My mum visits so often that as soon as I step into the shop to buy her present the sales assistant has already prepared it to be bought. She always remembers what my mum has said she likes and then reports it too me on arrival. That makes it quick and easy to buy her present, its like my own personal shopper. There are only two Jolai shops, the other of which is in Jersey. The staff are very friendly and always help you to find what you are looking for, whether this takes two minutes or two hours. The prices range with some around £15 and others £150. I don't recall seeing any higher priced though. As well as jewellery they also sell a small range of bags. The best thing about Jolai, which I almost forgot to mention, is that they only make one or two of each item. This is great as it is more unique. A problem if something sells out though, we haven't had this problem yet (well unless I have bought it without telling my mum!) Opposite Jolai is another jewellery shop called Wink. They make their own jewellery from gold, silver, palladium and platinum. The majority of their jewellery can only be found in Wink and they are willing to make a new unique piece of jewellery from your old scrap jewellery. I have occasionaly looked in their window but not gone any further as they are very expensive. They currently have a half price sale but I'm still not sure it justifies the price. The Guernsey Pearl has a small shop in town which sells items of jewellery made with local pearls. These are beautiful but not things I would wear. Some of the prices are a little pricey. Hsamuel has a wide range of watches and other jewellery. I always buy my watches here. They also sell a lot of collectables like my favourites, tatty teddy figurines and other popular ones. It is a nice spacey shop with friendly staff who are always there to help. The prices are very reasonable as well. Carousel is a local business which sells jewellery and bags. These are not unique to the shop and of a good price. Some other items like puzzles and gifts are also sold here. This is a local family business which has been in the arcade for longer than I can remember. Seasalt has a beautiful shop which hasn't been there long. It sells clothes and other accessories but personally I wouldn't wear them. I have been in a few times though. When you enter the shop you can see some lovely spiral stairs, tricky to get children up them though. Another clothes shop opposite, Miss Selfridges, sells more fashionable items of clothing. It is nicely laid out and has friendly staff on both floors. Fletcher Sports sells sports clothes and equipment. The staff are very helpful and will always help. They sell football boots, footballs, swimwear etc. This is not their only shop on the island, one is on the bridge. The Land of Green Ginger sells lovely clothes, jewellery and furniture however the shop in the arcade sells just furniture. They have a small range of unique furniture which look beautiful. If only I had the room and money for some of theirs. The Body Shop is a small shop with a lot in. The brand seems to be a favorite on dooyoo so i'm sure it needs no explanation. I don't tend to buy here but I have bought some nice and much appreciated presents from here. Balloonees has party accessories like balloons, and small fancy dress items. I never buy here as one of my relatives has a different fancy dress shop and I dont want to give them my money to help them. Hotel Chocolat is an extremely small shop. Once inside you can barely move around. I do not like this shop because at Christmas and before Summer holidays when I am given chocolates from children at my work they usually come from here. I am very grateful but some of the chocolates I tried last year were absolutely disgusting. Not worth paying the expensive prices. Costa Coffee is another place I am not at all keen on. Until last year we had none and now we have two. I don't really like their coffee or any of the other foods. However I do like to eat at Dix Neuf. This means 19 in French and it happens to be at number 19 commercial arcade. I'm not sure if this is why it was named Dix Neuf. The cafe makes delicious cakes and meals. When I was younger I used to enjoy going to Dix Neuf every week with my relatives. Unfortunately they went on a weekday morning so I could only go in school holidays. My favourite cake was a Danish Pastry, yum yum. Outdoor seating is great in the summer as I love people watching. There is also a Dix Neuf in Jersey. The Commercial Arcade has some fantastic shops in a small area. There are a few shops I havent mentioned because I just cannot think of the names but they are all worth a look. I especially recommend Jolai.
