Advantages: Unique, loads of shops/ stalls, friendly
Disadvantages: N/A
I love affflecks and these are the reasons why:
Location/building- Afflecks palace is in the centre of manchester just down the road form picadilly train station, it is set in and old mill and is spead out over four floors (I think). Its a big place, if you have trouble with stairs then I wouldnt recommend going in, there are loads of staircases that are quite narrow and steep and there are no lifts.
Shops/stalls- Inside afflecks there are loads of small shops and stalls. They sell a range of stuff but its all based on a punk rock/ mosher kind of theme, you wont find anything by nike in here. Most of the stuff isnt branded and you can expect to find anything from piercing accesories to incense sticks, they also sell clothing and plenty of cool chunky jewellery. The people working in there tend to e friendly and helpful but can look slightly intimidating with blue hair and hundreds of piercings. There is a tatoo and piercing shop that I would recommend, even though you may expect it to not be very clean it is and the staff are great. There is also a section of afflecks called the arcade that cen be reached via another enterance and by walking through afflecks, in there, there are a few shops that sell mostly clothing, there is a shop called syberdog which sells clothes for going out clubbing, most of it is fluresant and a bit mad. Most of the stuff is reasoanably priced although there are some more expensive shops. There is a cafe on the top floor which sells basic food and drinks (non-alcoholic), It doesnt look like the cleanest place there is which may put some people off. If you go in afflecks at the weekend it will be very busy and crowded, it is also gets quite hot and my sister has often felt very sick in there. If you just want to go and have a look around to see what its like then I would go in the week but you might not get the same atmosphere.
Atmoshpere- If you are shocked by strange piercings/tatoos or mulit-coloured mowhaks then give this place a miss. If you plan on walking in wearing a nike tracksuit then also be prepared for some strange looks and the odd offensive comments. Generally the people in here are friendly but they do stand out from the norm, you have to remeber people go here to get away from normality and be themselves and they will not appreciate people starring at them. Dont let this put you off however, Afflecks is a great palce and if you are visiting Manchester its well worth a visit.
So to summarise Afflecks Palace is a totally unique place that really makes Manchester stand out, I would definatley tell anone to go and have a look around.
Summary: A great place in manchester, you wont find anywhere else like it.
