When I first moved to Stafford I got told by a friend about Amerton Farm and how lovely it was. Then I spent a whole year without visiting but then last year I went for the first time and it seems over the past few months I have been quite a lot. It is a fantastic place for everybody and anybody to go to and this review will explain to you just why.
Location wise Amerton Farm's address is as follows;
Amerton Farm & Craft Centre
Stowe by Chartley
Stafford
ST18 0LA
It is located outside of Stafford town centre but is sign posted so is easy to find. You have to go down a long lane to get to Amerton and there is a huge car park you can go and park on which is free. It is located in the middle of countryside so is simply stunning an area.
You walk in through some gates and now lets tell you the things you can do here.
Farm:
Ok the farm is in the title and it is great. There is a small corner where you can go and there are pigs, a cow, goats and horses which you can sit and stroke and feed if the people are there. There is a place you can wash your hands too which is handy. There are also many chickens wandering around who are so used to people by now that they leave you alone really.
Then while we are on the subject of animals there is a wildlife rescue centre which you have to pay a couple of pounds to go into but there are is a large handful of animals including owls. This is a British Wildlife rescue centre so all animals are cared for very well indeed and come here when they are usually sick. The staff are very knowledgeable and it is a lovely area of Amerton.
Food:
There are a couple of places you can go to get food. There is a fantastic bakery which sells all sorts and their cheese and potato pie is just amazing. The prices are fine at about £1.50 for a large pasty which is good and they are delicious. You can smell the bakery the moment you walk onto the small courtyard which is where everything is so I always get tempted with something from there.
Then there is a tea shop which sells drinks, proper meals and cakes and teacakes and that sort of thing. There are a lot of tables and you can also take things into the courtyard to eat and drink if the weather is nice. Prices here are reasonable too with dinners being about £4 but they are huge so you should be full up afterwards.
Crafts & Shopping:
Now this is the other part of the title of the place. There is a big craft centre which sells all sorts for all ages and all types of people. You can buy kitchen goods, mirrors and paintings, children's toys and at the moment they have a good range of Christmas decorations. My favourite area is the food area though as you can buy local ice-cream and also really nice farmhouse biscuits.
There is also a jewellery shop which is very reasonable and has a good selection of jewellery. There is a pottery shop which I love their clocks and also a small studio here where children can paint pots. Then there is a cake shop which sells very nice chocolate and do wedding cakes and we are actually getting them to do ours as the chocolate is delicious.
The other major shop at Amerton is the garden centre which has a huge selection and is massive so you should be able to find lots of things from here for your garden. I always do!
Children:
This is worth a mention as I know that children do get bored sometimes but there is a playbarn where they can go which is basically full of toys and slides and all sorts so that should keep them occupied. There is also the railway which is nice for adults and kids which I have not been on but the trains are very sweet looking.
So that is Amerton Farm and Craft centre and I have to say that if you go you will not be disappointed. I don't think you could spend a whole day there but a few pleasant hours definitely. It is a lovely place to visit if you are in this area. A small warning though that some places do not accept cards so do take some cash with you.
Thoroughly recommended to all.
Thanks for reading.
