do not go here.....
why...staff are rude and do not care about their visitors....fobbed off when we complained that what we got was not what we booked.
We booked a caravan with silver plus rating..we clearly told them we wanted accommodation on the flat and near a car park so that mother could walk with help to car from caravan as she has a walking stick. What we got was a steep hill, caravan with no number on it. We worked out that it was our caravan by the baby high chair...unpacking and carrying stuff from car to van would have been impossible so rang reception to be moved. They had to use a golf cart to get mum down as she would have been stranded otherwise. I had to go back down to the car backwards as no handrail. All this carrying a 12 month old.
We asked to be moved, they gave us a chalet which was dirty, fixtures and fittings did not work. Mouldy in places. We were not amused.
We asked to see the manager. Rude, fobbed off, don't care attitude, like it or lump it. They ignore people too hoping the problem will go away.
Poor service...please do not go here...dated, dirty and uncaring
Just come back from a fantastic weekend at bideford bay. The park was lovely and we really enjoyed watching the rabbits play on the grass outside our chalet. The chalet was spotless and huge, it was two chalets knocked into one. would deffinately stay again and recomend to family and friends.
Have just come back from Bideford Bay. After reading all the previous reviews i was to say the least, a bit worried. But everything has changed since last year - a brand new club house, beautifully refurbished, as is the brand new kitchen. Food was pretty good, wouldn't say a five star restaurant but nice enough. A new terrace with comfortable chairs to sit and have a drink or watch your children playing. The site was clean and well looked after and the staff very friendly and helpful.I can see that the site would be difficult for people in wheelchairs/disabilities because it is very hilly.I am sorry for all those people that were so disappointed last year but...........you should see the site now!!!
Having just received a reminder about booking with Park Resorts for this year I feel I must tell anyone looking to stay at Bidiford Bay to take all their cleaning products and ensure all their vacinations are up to date.
When we stayed last summer (August 2010) the chalet we stopped in was filthy with left over food from the previous residents still left in the fridge......the carpet was also filthy we also had left overs from the previous residents over the toilet.
The whole chalet had the smell of damp which we tried to disguise with the air fresheners we bought. This was supposedly a Silver chalet, I dread to think what a Bronze chalet would have been like.
The cleanliness of the clubhouse was not much better either. We made the mistake of eating there the first night, (most of the 4 meals we bought went in the bin) needless to say we did not eat there again......I will leave you draw your own conclusions to the quality of food we were served.
Hopefully anyone staying this year will not experince the dissapointments as a family that we did.
On arrival we were informed that the accomodation type we had booked was not available and that we had been downgraded. We were given no choice but to accept what they offered. We had to wait three days before they told us what refund we could expect at which point they fobbed us off with a figure that was three times what we were eventually refunded a month later. The site was miles from anywhere, very hilly, we had a big problem with wasps due to the bins being so close to our caravan and the clubhouse was unimpressive with extremely smelly toilets.
If you are disabled or have problems with hilly conditions DO NOT BOOK AT PARK RESORT BIDEFORD BAY. My partner and I had a booking, with an upgrade paid, for September, and a request for a caravan next to a car or very near to car parking, was requested, which was confirmed on our booking confirmation from them, and on two phone calls to the main booking department, but on arrival at the check in was told no such condition was available as to position of caravan, after viewing the area where the caravan was situated, we had to go this time to the main reception, to ask if we could change to another suitable situated caravan, only to be told, not at all, by a very rude staff male member, that we should take it or leave it, so we had no other choice but to not take it, so we asked for a refund, only to be told no, and that we would have to write to head office, which we did, but after e-mails and letters from us we cannot get through to them that we want a refund, for a holiday that could not be taken because of the situation at the site, and the attitude of the staff was very very poor. SO IF YOU ARE DISABLED AND A PENSIONER DO NOT BOOK AT THIS SITE, thank God this company only has one site in the beautifull county of Devon - Mrs Gloria Weeble and Mr Walter Massey, Plymouth. e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org
We've just returned from a holiday in Bideford Bay. The worst experience ever. We arrived on Monday, an hour early and couldnt check in as they needed to clean the accomodation, fair enough, we went to the clubhouse and spent 10 minutes in their soft play centre. It stunk! There were bits of food debris in the corner and dog hair on the floor. THe carpet hadnt seen a shampoo in quite some time. The Manor House itself stunk too. At 4pm I went to check in and found over 40 people waiting in the queue, at 5pm the number had hardly changed. At about 5:30pm I joined the queue and waited. We were given our keys and told where the accomodation was. My 9 year old son and I, who had been looking forward to this break for the past year set off to find our chalet. Boy was I shocked. The Carpets were torn and threadbare in places, the settee had two large rips in it, and was covered in smelly stains, the rooms smelt musty and damp, the accomodation was cold, the master bedroom had masonary exposed due to a wall fitting coat hanger being dislodged, light fittings were missing bulbs, and several others were blown out all together. The kitchen harked back to a bygone era and would have looked more in place in a musuem. Complaining resolved nothing, the manager who I think had only just left scholld said they were fully booked so could not move us, even if I paid a premium. Our first night was spoilt further by eating at the venue. Warm beer and cold food, an hours wait, a grunt when I asked for cutlery, and dirty tables, which we had to clear ourselves all added to a pretty awful first night. In summary, the place is dreadful, I've taken some photos and have published them on facebook, will be writing to Watchdog and making as much noise as I possibly can about this appauling site that parades itself as a holiday destination. Done waste your time or money going there.....
I came back from Bideford Bay Park Resorts on 3/09/10. We were 3 adults, 15 yr old, 9 yr old, 5 yr old and a 21 month old.
When we arrived we went down to reception, looked quite nice from the outside.
Went into the Manor House to wait for check in. It stank! it was like walking into a pub which hadn't been cleaned for yrs!
Me and my partner were hungry so we ordered some food, they didn't have anything we wanted so had to settle with lasagne (looked like thats all they were cooking) waited over an hr! the lasagne looked like it had just been heated up and the chips were full of fat! absolutely disgusting! DO NOT EAT IN THE MANOR HOUSE!!
The caravan was cold and damp and also mouldy! we were in silver 3 bed. The beds were ok but the wall by where my 5 yr old was sleeping was damp and mouldy!
The sofa bed was disgusting! pulled it out and it stank and was covered in stains! so my 15 yr old brother just slept on the sofa which was dirty as well.
The entertainment was ok but i couldn't sit in that smell so only went in once!
The park was the best bit, really good!
The swimming pools were rubbish! the indoor pool was small and was about 1.5 m deep all the way across!
The outdoor pool was big but still really shallow all the way across!
Luckily we had cars so we went to Westwood Ho the first day which isn't far and a good beach apart from the tide going out late so the sand was soaking wet!
We went to Bude which was nice as well but the best place to go is Saunton Sands! AMAZING! the best beach i've been to. Very good for surfers! there is parking which i think was £6 for all day (definitely worth it), a shop which sells umbrellas, blow up things, buckets, spades, flip flops, post cards, sweets, choc, surfer clothes, plus a shop next to it which sold food and drink and ice creams!
We only went to the caravan to sleep and only used the Manor House once!
If the weather had been rubbish i would have left straight away!
DO NOT GO HERE!
We have just returned from what i can only describe as a truely miserable vist to a truely abbismal holiday resort . First impresions were of the Manor house, mmm quite nice we thought until we went inside to check in. The stench was awful, stale beer with overtones of the gentlemens toilet..... At this point we thought ahh well it can only get better..... How wrong we were, the chalet/shed met us with an odour that took at least two days to get rid of.
Yet again we thought that things can only get better. Well no, the facilities on site were no way suitable for the two teenage boy's let alone adults. And the weather well......but I suppose you cannot blame this on the site/camp or resort (although I say that very loosely).
On a good note the reception staff were very helpful.
Not somewhere were we will be going again I am afraid and as for recomendation, I think not!!!
We have just got back from park resorts-bideford bay site and had an ace time with my fella and two children, we stayed from the 29th april 2010 to 3rd may 2010 for a 3 night weekend stay. We also booked through park resorts main site not a third party.
I was a little worried as there had been bad reviews about it, but we had the best time. We stayed in a silver chalet was very nice and catred for our needs. Yes it is set on a very step hill, but we got around this by taking the kids scooters and we werent that far from the manor house which wasnt bad.
The enertainment was great and the hosts were so full of energy i dont know how they did it! The pool was small but we still enjoyed and the kids loved it as they could touch the floor with their feet, we didnt get to use the outdoor pool as it was raining but that was a lot bigger. We went along to the nearest beach (wesward ho!) which was lovely and the big sheep for a day out which is recommended.
As i said we stayed in silver chalet which had two bedrooms (1 double and 2 singles) and there was also a sofa bed so it could sleep six. There was a small kitchen with an electric cooker, microwave, toaster and kettle. All pans and cutlery were all ready to use and clean. The bathroom was a good size and had a shower but no bath, be warned though when the kitchen and bathroom floors get wet they are very slippy as we found out when my son fell over and nearly broke his wrist!
The living room was nice with a small flat screen telly and an electric fire and also a table with chairs. The beds were made up for us before we arrived and check in was quick and easy, we found our chalet easily.
There is a walk down to the local beach, which is a stony beach and a very step walk going down, so not advisable for someone with a pram, wheelchair or unsteady on their feet.
We enjoyed it and walked back up the road which comes out right next to the holiday park. Their is a shop and reasturant on site aswel as a takeaway, we went to the supermarket and bought a pizza, chips and milk that came to £6! so we didnt go there again, although they do sell souverniers. There is an asda about 10 mins away on the way to bideford and a morrisons in bideford town centre, if food ect is needed. I didnt eat in the reasturant or take-away so cant comment, although we did avoid it due to recommendations on here.
There is a very good adventure park down by the manor house which was good for the kids whilst we sat and had a well earned drink, after that walk. There is also a small soft play area inside but we didnt get time to visit so we just had a quick look. My fella went down to the manor house to play some pool with my son and enjoyed themselves whilst watchin freddie mercury.
Also on our last night we decided to go down early as this was also recommened either on here or another review site. So we went down at around 6.30ish after our tea, my and my daughter played bingo which the stakes werent that high but we enjoyed although we didnt win whilst my son and fella played pool. Bingo started at 7pm and this was followed by sparkys fun time, which invloved some games along with some disco time. Then alice in boogie land the kids loved this and didnt move from the spot they were sat in for the whole show, this was then followed by the cabaret but the kids started getting tired so we headed back to our chalet.
All in all we had a great time and would defo go back, although i will make sure we go back when its a bit warmer as we did want to go in that outdoor pool!
Anyways hope this helps everyone wanting to go
We have owned a caravan with Park Resorts for 4 years, at first everything seemed to be great but as time went on we realised that the management and the staff abuse there position after they create a monopoly with in the park. Since this I have read many review of people who have had bad experience with park resorts at www.park-resorts.info. All I would say is look into everything prior to commiting your self.
Bideford Bay holiday park is part of the Park Resorts company. It is located near the North Devon town of Bideford. It is close to Clovelly, Exmoor and Westward Ho!
We arrived at the park at around 9pm on Friday evening. Due to the late check in, we had to phone ahead and then pick up our keys from the bar. This was no problem and the girl who gave us our keys was very polite and helpful and explained everything thoroughly despite having a bar full of people to serve. Because it was dark, we found it quite hard to find our accomodation because there weren't a lot of street lights. We eventually found it and was rather annoyed to find there was no parking available nearby (it had all been taken).
From the welcome pack we were given on arrival we learned we had been given a complementary upgrade from Bronze to Silver accomodation...very nice we thought, that was until we opened the door! We had been allocated to what they describe as a chalet, however in my own personal opinion it looked more like a youth club from the outside. The layout of the chalet was very simple, it was square in shape with a central living area surrounded by a kitchen, bathroom and 2 bedrooms. The chalet was filthy. The carpets were muddy, sofas had brown patches and there was even a leaf on the coffee table! The kitchen window was left wide open meaning it was freezing cold when we arrived. We turned the electric fire on but this soon decided to stop working. With two grizzly kids in tow I was in 2 minds about what to do as they just wanted to get their heads down. However, I couldn't put up with the standard of the accomodation and we decided to phone security, as we had been told to if there were any problems (reception was shut). Security told us there was nothing they could do and we would have to wait until the morning and then call into reception. Being tired from travelling this really annoyed me and I was far from pleased. When we finally got to bed I found myself awake in the early hours due to burning legs. I had taken my own bed linen so realised it wasn't that so therefore it must have been a problem with the bed itself. We decided to call into reception the next day to see what they could do as it really was putting tension amongst us all and ruining our break.
The staff in reception were really helpful and listened to all we had to say. They gave us two choices, they would either send the cleaning team to clean the chalet or move us completely. I said I didn't care as long as it was clean but in the end they decided to move us. We were given a choice of two properties, a silver graded caravan or a bronze graded lodge. We ended up in the lodge because the caravan was unavailable in the end.
We were really happy with the lodge. The lodge consisted of a large living area, double bedroom, galley kitchen and bathroom downstairs and 2 twin bedrooms upstairs. The lodge was a really good size and although it did seem a little dated it was clean and tidy and was a vast improvement from the chalet. The kids loved the lodge and everyones moods brightened immediately. It had a really homely feel and we were very happy here.
Bideford Bay is home to both an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. The outdoor one was closed due to the time of year but had a flume. The inside one was quite basic but did the job and the kids had a great time in here. There were a few toys out to play with and I imagine you can take your own along too.
There is a large play park situated outside the bar. This had a lot of things for the kids to play on and although it is quite traditional with just basic apparatus in it there was plenty of everything meaning they never had to wait for turns. There was plenty of swings, slides, climbing frames etc. There is an indoor soft play area for the under 5's which is fab on a rainy day. There is also an Adventure Playground at the park. Next to the park there is a good sized Crazy Golf course. This is an additional charge but is reasonably priced and families can spend a fun hour or so here.
The Manor House showbar is where all the entertainment takes place. There is a good bar which stocks a variety of brands at low prices, a takeaway and a restaurant. The restaurant was not open when we visited so I imagine it is only open in high season. The entertainment was of a high standard and we really enjoyed the evening we spent in the showbar. There are a number of activities that take place starting with over 18's bingo then kids games and character meet and greet. I did notice that the entertainment was only usually headed by one member of staff at a time. However, this was fine as it wasn't particularly busy and I felt it gave it a more personal feel. Any children that wanted to take part were warmly invited and the character of Sparkle the rabbit was very good. After the kids entertainment it moves towards the adult entertainment including 'adult game shows', cabaret and a live band. This was all to a good standard and was good fun.
There is an arcade at Bideford Bay although it is quite small and only consists of around 15 machines although bigger jackpot fruit machines are available in the bar. There are 6 2p machines which are fab for the kids, fruit machines, claw machines, driving games and dance games. These were good fun and good value.
There is an on site shop which is perfect if you are there for just the weekend however if there for longer you may wish to find a supermarket nearby. This stocked the essentials and a few small gifts and postcards. The staff were very polite and friendly.
The park is located close to the beach and you can see the sea from the majority of the accomodation. Unfortunately we did not have time to visit the beach although we would have liked to.
When we went to check out I had already decided I would like to visit the park again and wanted to book another holiday there and then. I had looked at prices online for a few places nearby (just to check out the competition) for a long weekend in the Easter holidays and had been quoted around £220. The very friendly staff in reception spent a good half an hour chatting with us about our needs and we were very pleased when they came back with the bargain price of £133! This included a £50 discount because we booked for 2010 whilst on site. We were also entitled to a free Sparkle cuddly toy. The lovely lady in reception actually gave us 2 of these (one for each of the girls) which was really kind of her and greatly appreciated.
The staff in reception really turned our holiday round. They made us feel very welcome and tried to help in any way possible. We knew that if there were any problems all we had to do was call them or pop in and they would be happy to help. They are a credit to Bideford Bay and we were very grateful for the help they gave us.
To begin with, I was very disheartend by this holiday but this turned around and turned into a truly fab holiday, so much so we have booked to go back next year! We owe it all to the wonderful staff in reception and in the end we had a really nice time. I recommend this park as it has all the facilities needed for a fun family break and also would recommend trying to book a lodge! It is worth noting you can use clubcard vouchers to book a holiday with Park Resorts.

Just returned (a day early) from Bideford bay - worst holiday on a caravan site as yet. Couldn't wait to get home. Caravan was horrible, not very clean, found earwigs in the bedroom, no kettle and lights both in bathroom and bedroom did not work - went to reception to complain, maintenance man came to fix light in bathroom - but told us they already knew about the broken light in bedroom, apparently the part had been ordered a few days ago and would take 2 days to arrive (that meant our holiday would be over before it got fixed). Outdoor swimming pool was closed, crazy golf was a joke.Tried the takeaway - burgers burnt to a cinder and very expensive - also forgot part of our order. Wouldn't recommend this resort (if you could call it that) to anyone.
