Advantages: so much to do and see
Disadvantages: weather may spoil some outside fun
Just came back from a 4 night stay at Butlins, and I did'nt want to come home! I went with my mum, my neice and nephew (4 and 8), and my 15 month old daughter. We all had a fantastic time! Before we went away, I had heard some horror stories, so I was expecting a very drab week. But I was pleasantly surprised about our accomodation, 3 bedrooms, two with twin beds, and one with a double bed, tv and tea/coffee making facilities. The decor was lovley, in one room, there was noddy all over the room which my daughter loved! We had a wander round and in the skyline (big main dome thing with restaurants and stage) there was always something going on, whether it be a singing and dancing show or puppets or orange man or....the list is endless! Noddy plays a big part here, along with Mr Plod, Big Ears, and Tessie bear. They regularly made appearances and never minded if you wanted a pic with them. The jellykins were funny looking things but my daughter and neice just went wild when they saw them, and my nephew loved meeting the power rangers (I thought they were a bit outdated, but apperantly not!). Outside the skyline, there is the centre stage which is a big theatre type place, where every night, different shows are on. We watched a russian circus perform and they were amazing, who would have guess that a body can actually turn near enough inside out! Next to centre stage, there is Reds, home of the redcoats. They also do all sorts of shows, the childrens talent contest was fab! Then of course there was the cinema, the countless side stalls, the fair, the go karts, the swimming pool (great slides!), the trampolines, the pubs (nice cosy ones, even an irish pub that does karaoke every night!), and all the restaurants! Talking of food, we went half board, and I was dreading it! But again I was surprised, they had a great choice of food, very tasty. Veggies were well catered for, so were the kids, nice choice of drinks too.
I certainly miss my fry up every morning! (I'm sure my waistline won't though!) All in all, it was a GREAT experience and I will be definitley be going back. Its about time we gave the good old british holidays the credit they deserve! I fogot to mention that on my last day, I was on the carousel horses and i slipped as i was trying to climb on, and ripped my trousers in the inside leg, a rip that spanned from crotch to knee. I had to endure the whole ride feeling rather stupid and head off to left luggage and explain to the guy why i wanted in my suitcase, he roared with laughter when he saw! Later on, when we went to collect the cases, there was another man on duty and he said to me "oh, so your the one that ripped her trousers" and started sniggering too! Oh yeah, not one drop of rain all week, and my tan is as good as if i had been away to the bahamas!
