Advantages: All day entertainment, Everything on one site

Disadvantages: Very basic accomodation

I have just returned from a three night stay at Butlins with my husband and two children, 4 and nineteen months.
We went with quite high expectations having never visited before and only relying on the details and pictures in the brochures. I wouldn't say that we were dissapointed in general, some of the activities were great, however the accomodation was a dissapointment.
We decided to go half board and we couldn't fault the food, however, not having to cook or wash up I would have been happy with a sandwich for my dinner if someone else had prepared it!!
The accomodation we booked was a toyland gallery apartment which was the most expensive accomodation avaliable and only bettered in quality by the de-luxe.
According to the brochure the appartment had one room (the childs) decorated in a noddy theme, and we were suppose to have two noddy backpacks waiting for us. We had told our son this and he was bitterly dissapointed when they were not there when we arrived.
I, however was more concerned with the fact that the whole appartment smelt very badly of cigarette smoke, especially in the kids room and there were dog ends on the bedroom floor, also no bed linen had been left, no toilet roll and my main concern was that the front door could not be locked from the inside and even my nineteen month old could reach and turn the easy door knob, we ended up putting her cot in the hallway up against the front door just in case my son went wandering in the night.
We did complain twice, the first time nothing came of it, the second time someone opened the door sprayed a can of air freshener and left.
I must say if that was the top of the range accomodation i'm glad we didn't go for the economy.
The rest of the facilities were okay if a bit grubby, but I must say, I found that the "red coats" were only cheery when they were doing there shows whenver they were walking around they seemed to want to be left well alone!! r>I would consider going back now I know what to expect, howver I think I would rather save some more money and go somewhere like center parcs.

I am inclined to agree with you somewhat. We had a fantastic time here but I do think it would be nice if they had smoking and non-smoking rooms. Especially where children are concerned.

Maybe for the deluxe accomodation you're supplied with an air freshener when you arrive... ;)
