Advantages: Everything there, Great Value for Money
Disadvantages: Price of Drinks, Weather may affect some things
I have just returned from Butlins at Bognor Regis and I must say, it has been the best break I had had for a long time. My wife and I decided to go for a long weekend break without the kids. I found it very difficult to get bored there. From the moment we arrived we found something to do every minute of the day. We arrived at about 4:30pm on the Friday evening ( you cannot check in until 4 ) and we didn't even have to queue to check in. We booked the Silver Rooms on a half board basis. We got to our room and it was perfect. The decor was great, it was clean and warm. Although it was basic with just a double bed and a bathroom, it was more than adequate for the time we were spending there. There was also a colour television in the room with NO remote control. We wasn;t really bothered about the TV because we planned to be out most of the time. Once we had settled in we had a quick look around and went over for our dinner. This was so well organised. We had a reserved table, no queues and waitress service. Although the menu did not have a lot of choices, there were dishes to fit almost everyone's tastes. The staff were extremely polite and helpfull and the food was hot and well cooked. We were offered seconds and even thirds of everything. We returned to our room got changed and headed overs to Jaks ( an over 18s bar ). There was fantastic entertainment and it was easy to buy drinks. The staff were very well organised and there were not big queues at the bar. We stayed there until it closed and then went and bought a kebab in their fantastic kebab shop. The only fault I could find at this stage was that the drinks seems to be on the expensive side ( £2.80 for a pint of carling ). After a good night's sleep we looked around the rest of the site. There is definately something for everyone there. The place was packed but it was still easy to buy things and get into places. After breakfas
t which again was well prepared and organised we went to the swimming pool which was great fun. Then after spending time in the arcades and looking around the shops we had a walk to the beach which is only a few minutes outside the centre. You can even get a little sea front train there ( 70p return ). We then got ready for dinner and the night out. The dinner was again excellent. This night we went to Reds which is an indoor theatre like venue. Again it was well organised with great non-stop entertainment. Again drinks were fairly pricey. The last day we went to the cinema ( a bit basic and the sweets for sale were stale ) but enjoyed the film anyway. Again this was bit pricey for what it was at £4.50 per adult. We got ready for the last night and went to the Centre Stahe which is another one of their indoor venues. Again the entertainment was great and we enjoyed the whole evening. This was a fantastic break. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked to go again with the kids in April and again on our own in November for one of the over 18s theme breaks. I found it very difficult to get bored and there was so much to do. I would normally have given this full marks for value for money but due to the high cost of the drinks and the cinema I am going to give it just under.

- 02/04/03 I am so glad to hear somebody actually have something nice to say about Butlins in Bognor. My husband and I are lucky enough to get to go away on our own without our son a couple of times a year (good old grandparents!) and the last couple of times we have gone away we have gone to Bognor we have had a brilliant time. We have tried various types of accommodation - self catering standard, silver half board and standard half board and have found each type to be perfectly adequate.
We are going to be going again in May while our son is on a school trip to swanage and this time we have managed to get a good deal on deluxe half board accommodation. So I will leave a review of that incase any body is interested.
Just like to say that if you do go to the camp, check out the sports bar, you can have half an hour of playing pool for just £2.50 - we often book for a couple of hours - really fills the time :o)

- 25/02/03 been to all the Butlins over the years with the children. really enjoyed it when mine were tiny, ten years ago ,as there were lots of free things for them to do... and we could just sit back and watch.
i went to skeggie last year and was very dissapointed, i thought it loud and really commercialised, there was a pound slot machine on every corner ,and the open plan of the dome was just too much for us to relax in, [we had two year old twins and a five year old with us]
and instead of doing up the lovely old theatre they have closed it down...it was really worth tarting up as it was so pretty and quaint
i guess i am just wanting to live in simpler time where the babies dont get their ear drums burst dancing in the kiddies floor disco right next to giant stacks of speakers!!
in the past the security at these camps wasnt so evident.....now at the least hint of any trouble they come out of the wood work
so in this respect you do feel a bit safer from the drunks who would bellow about the place at night.
if you like lots of fair ground stuff and scary rides and night life then try flamingo land in north yorkshire. It is great for younger and older kids, and is set in about 300acres, has a zoo too.
[its nr eden camp too]
pleased you had a great time
getting some time to yourself is something me and my husband have NEVER done! |
