Advantages: Loads to do, Pool is great, WICKED entertainment
Disadvantages: Harry Ramsdens
I am a 15 year old Teenage girl and I'd been to Butlins many times before I went this summer so I knew what to expect- but even though it was my 2nd visit to Bognor Regis Butlins this year I was amazed by what I experienced. The wait to get our keys was not too long. My brother (13), sister (13) and I were entertained by the funfair and general exploration of our new 2 week home. There was an African dancing show on in the pavillion, but I was so excited I couldn't sit still. When we got our keys it time for the dreaded unpacking ceremony. The accomodation was great. Big enough for my baby sister to run around in.facillities were no problem. I had no complaints after 2 weeks. My bed was comfier than I'd ever imagined a holiday camp bed could be. No ripped sheets or mouldy walls. Just plain living quarters. Dinner that night was a Burger King. No-one could be bothered to cook. It was the same as a normal burger King. The only place I didn't like eating at was Harry Ramsdens. It may be publicised as the best fish and chips in the world but my local chippie is much nicer- and cheaper! the curry night in the Sun and Moon pub was great. The curry was great with a wide selection to choose from. The activities were geat too. I hardly ever found myself bored. The swimming pool was massive. A master Blaster dinghy ride was well worth the 45 minute queue. I thought it would be just another boat ride, but it shattered all expectations. The space bowl and other flumes were all good too. My baby sister loved the wave machine (as did us older siblings!!) and the rapids were lovely to glide along in. The fair was a good way to fill some time. Although a parasol ride doesn't seem too scary, it went higher than I thought! the dodgems were a let down (no bumping rule- whats with that???). A weird round thing I can't explain was obviously scary for the kids but I was a little too old to be fazed by it. The Topspin-
greatest ride Ive been on. Rameses Revenge minus the water! Each time, the order of spins was difffrent. I also loved the go carks even though there was a £4 charge. Luckily, my dad got addicted to them and was soon payin over and over again to race me round the track. One thing I loved was the megazone. Its basically a laser game in which 2-3 teams shoot lasers at body packs 2 gain points. Its so much fun. My cousin loved it. It was £3.50 per game, but well worth it. We only joined in one of the organised activities during our stay- a rounders game. I was a little sceptial but I was prooved wrong. The organised rounders game soon turned into a laugh-a-minute free for all where kids and adults battled it out to win them rounders! We played for nearly 3 hours and only finished because another activity was planned for the area. The beach was OK. Its mainly stones though and can be painful on the feet. The sea was cold, but exhilirating. A good afternoon out. The town had everything a basic town has. Supermarket, shops, cafes. The ventures into town were usually left to the grown ups. Us kids were able to go off on own and do what we wanted (within reason of course)! And finally I'm brought to the best part of my stay- evening entertainment. My dad and granddad loved the shows and my sister and I danced in the diso. We also joined in the party dances (well we were on holiday!!) and became strangely addicted to a dance called the caspar slide. But the best was yet to come. The TV Hits Tour was there every Tuesday and my sister and I were delighted to be able to stand in front of the stage at arms length from the gods that are Romeo and Triple 8! We even got a cheeky wave from new boybond Wot Next and our tales of the moment they all touched our hand will be relayed for years to come. Even 90s popstars EAST 17 were there( minus 1 of them). I never realised I loved them until then. Although Brian Harvey's reinvention
as a fatter Eminem was a little worrying. The entertainment was definitely entertaining! If ya wanna no what the redcoats are like, watch REDCOATS on ITV at 11:45 on a Wednesday- they're all on theer! So, my stay at Butlins was great! Heaven in fact. I loved every moment apart from checking out. If you ever get the chance to go there- do!

- 24/04/03 Yay, someone else who loves Butlins as much as I do!
I'm sick of people slagging it off all the time, thinking that it's some scruffy cheap place. It's not!
As karenuk says, it's rather expensive at Butlins. It depends which kind of accomodation you stay in, but the nice ones cost quite a bit: I went with my parents and my boyfriend a couple of years ago, and it cost £600! We could've gone to Spain or wherever for the same amount, but still...
The fact that the three sites have all been refurbished is great, and I too love the 'everything under one roof' thing.
I have never been to the Minehead one, but have been to both Skegness and Minehead, with good old Skeggy coming out on top.
Ok, I'll bring my rant to an end!
Great op, especially as it's your first :)

- 24/04/03 I've been to all the Butlins. My main impression is that they offer a good family holiday, but an expensive one. |
