Advantages: Great value, especially in term time

Disadvantages: If you go without kids you might be scratching around for things to do

If you are looking for a cheap and cheerful place to take the kids for a short break, with activities on tap and a beach on your doorstep, the Butlin's fits the criteria. In term time you can get deals for about £30 per person, which increases fairly substantially in the school holidays.

There are numerous characters and events to keep the little ones entertained, such as Billy Bear, Bob the Builder, Bob's yard (free rides), Daisy the Cow, Skyline gang - well there's loads. There's a list of weekly events so you can plan where you go and what you want to see, with many activities being free.

The accommodation is self-catering so bring your own food - the shops on site have a small range of food and drinks but they'll be a bit more expensive than your Asda's or Tesco's prices.

The beach is literally right outside of the complex, so just cross the road and your are there! There are funfair rides (horse carousel, scary rides for the older ones, waltzers, spinning boat, go-karts) which will cater for kids of all ages - even adults can enjoy the horse carousel!!!

There's enough to keep you entertained for the week - we usually go Monday - Friday (but you can go on weekends too) which captures the children's attention and ensures they don't get bored.

For parents there are lots of things to do to, such as crazy golf, shops, places to eat, sports bar, nightclubs etc.

Overall, a family orientated destination which doesn't cost the earth. It's even cheaper in term-time so great if you've pre-school children!

Summary: An excellent break for kids where everything is on site - most things are free too!
