Advantages: Cheap but lovely
Disadvantages: Closed after school
Camelot is a soft play centre set as an enchanting castle with dragons and knights and princess. Camelot is in am old church that has been modernised for this purpose while still retaining many original features like beams and arched window's (unfortunately replaced with UPVC but better than they could have been) . The whole room is painted in one large mural of a castle with fire breathing flying dragons, even the ceiling is the, painted a rich blue with silver stars. there is the sun setting on the main back wall so it must be twilight. In with all this there is a small reception and kitchen where you can but drinks and reasonably priced food.
Half the large hall holds a play structure that is all very safe, with a ball pool, swing balls and soft shapes on the lower level and more fun on the top like punch bags to tackle through a wavy slide and then on a sort of mezzanine level right at the top there is a spiral slide all the way down to the ball pool. In between there is rope ladders and bridges, and a number of obstacles to manoeuvre for the little ones.
The cost is £2 per child for unlimited play between the hours of 9am and 3pm during term time, this includes a cup of tea or coffee and a drink of juice for the kids. In my experience this is a very generous offer even without the drinks. I have only been in this time and have found it to be a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and the staff very helpful.
At other times they are only open for private birthday party's, these are £99 for exclusive use for 15 children and last 1hour 45 minutes during the week and £119 for the weekend and bank holidays. You can add more children for an extra cost up to 25 children all together . The party's include one hours play, party food , party bag's and unlimited juice for the children. They recommend the play area for children up to 12 years and although they could easily play on it I would think it is more suited to a max of 10 year's, they have a section for smaller toddlers too.
The food available are quite reasonable for play centres as they go, snacks like fruit and crisp from 30p, children's meal deals for £2.50 that come with a sandwich, fruit, drink and crisps. For adult's they do hot and cold sandwiches, toasted panini's and chiabata (£3) and hot and cold drinks.
All in all a great bargain for the in school hours and a great treat in general.
Summary: Fantastic play opportunity
