Advantages: Location and setting
Disadvantages: none
I have been to Whinfell Forest many times over the last few years. When I first visited it was Oasis and not owned by Center Parcs. If I am honest I did prefer it then, but I still love the place.
I have stayed in both lodges and apartments which have always been clean, comfortable and spacious.
There are many places to eat out at Whinfell - a lakeside inn, which is a traditional bar serving food also, which has special themed nights eg, 'Pie night' - yum! Pub quizzes are held here twice a week and there is also an indoor play barn to keep the little ones occupied.
The Indian Restaurant I cannot rate highly enough, and is the best Indian Restaurant I have ever visited!
There is also an Italian restaurant, Chinese Restaurant, and American Diner. You can also purchase meals at the Sports Cafe/Bar or have a Pizza takeaway. A well-stocked (and reasonably priced )supermarket is also on the site.
There are many different sports and activities to try and also a Spa for the less energetic who just want to relax. Activities can be booked before you arrive, information about this will be sent out to you with your booking confirmation, along with price lists etc.
Bikes are available to hire or you can take your own of course. Cars are only allowed to be taken to your lodge on arrival and departure to load and unload. The remainder of the time your car must remain in the large car park near the entrance, so be prepared to do a lot of walking!
The pool area is very large with many different pools both indoor and outdoor with slides and rapids. All this is free and an easy way to spend the day.
My favourite time of year to visit is November/December when Whinfell Forest is transformed into 'Lapland' complete with fake snow, real reindeer and Santa's grotto in the forest.
A real magical experience for children, and a lot cheaper than going to the real Lapland! There are Carol Singers, Mulled Wine and chestnut barrows, pantomimes and other Christmas themed activities throughout this time. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed!
Summary: Good value for money
