Dungloe Touring Caravan Park (Ireland)
Advantages: Good facilties good space between sites
On a recent tour of some of Donegal's most beautiful locations, we decided that instead of taking the easy option of hotel or B&B, we would bring our own tent, and camp, as we travelled around various areas.
There are many campsites around Donegal, and as with all things, they vary in quality and facilities- thankfully, this one at Dungloe was excellent, with wonderful facilities.
We had prebooked our space for our tent in advance, using the contact information on their website - www.dungloecaravanpark.com, and were given a site for our tent, including use of all the facilites for 20 euros, which isn't bad considering the expensive nature of anything in the republic of Ireland currently.
We arrived early evening at the campsite, which is situated in the middle of the little town of Dungloe. It is easy to find, and directions on the website are very clear and concise. This is a family run business, and we were greeted and welcomed by a lovely, helpful lady when we arrived. She gave us a wonderful corner site for us to pitch our tent, away from the other caravans that were in the park. However I would go as far as to say, that even though the park wasn't full when we were there, in the busy summer season, there would still be ample room between each individual space, so as to ensure each group has privacy. We certainly felt that we had lots of privacy, and could come out of our tent in the morning, dressed in our pyjamas, and not be in full view of other holiday makers, which is a big plus in my eyes.
There is a large green area in the middle of the caravan park, however this is not a place to go with a large group, and in fact large groups are not encouraged. The owners insist on quiet at night, an no ball games, so it really is the ideal place if you are looking to relax for a few days in peace and quiet.
The facilties at the caravan park and top notch. At the entrance, there are toilet facilities for both ladies and gents. There are 2 toilets, and 2 showers in each of the male and female toilet blocks. There is also a laundry room, although we did not use this, so I cannot comment on this. There is also a dish washing area, with 2 sink areas, which of course, we found extremely useful. There were also lots of drinking water taps around the park, as well as individul electrical points for caravans. The shower areas were of a good size, with a little stool, to put your clothes, and most importantly the shower were lovely and warm, in fact, just the perfect temperature. There is even the luxury of a hair dryer in the toilets.
All in all, we were extremely happy with both the location of the park, as well as all the facilities. It really has a cosy atmosphere, probably because it is not the biggest of caravan parks.
If you are looking for a quiet place to bring your caravan, or tent, then this is ideal. If you are looking for a place for your children to run around and play games or bring a large group, this is not the place to come. It was perfect however for us, and we had a wonderful relaxing stay, with plenty of privacy.
Summary: A great little place for a break
