We visited Forest Edge back in June for 2 nights camping. It was myself, my partner and 2 children aged 8 and 11. We had a fantastic time!

Forest Edge is part of Shorefield Holidays Limited. It is situated on the outskirts of Ringwood, Hampshire just off of the dual carriageway. Just up the road is its sister site Oakdene which all Forest Edge visitors have access to. Forest Edge houses an outdoor swimming pool, kids play area, games room and launderette but the facilities at Oakdene are better, they include both indoor and outdoor swimming pools (with flume and water features), play park, mini golf, kids club and entertainment. Oakdene can be reached either through the forest (walking takes around 20 minutes) or via the road (walking takes around 10 to 15 minutes or a car takes less than 5).

We booked Forest Edge in advance and it cost just £25.50 for 2 nights (Friday and Saturday) which is fantastic value in my opinion. They were quick to send through confirmation. Upon arrival my partner went into reception to find out where we were pitched, the woman was very helpful and gave us a mini map of the park aswell as a leaflet telling us all there was to do at Oakdene. We were told that if there was anything we needed help with then to just ask.

We then set about putting the tent up, the ground was fairly soft so this was easy and we were right next to the shower facilities (which were very clean), washing up facilities and ball park which we found to be very useful. The play area at Forest Edge is of a good size and there is something for children of all ages. This is situated right next to the outdoor swimming pool which is of a good size too and is heated. There is a small shop on site which stocked the essentials, all at very reasonable prices.

We went over to Oakdene on both days of our stay because the facilities were of a high standard and there was a lot more for the children to do. When we visited the Kids Club was only on at the weekend but I imagine in school holidays time it is on every day. There was a variety of things that they did including parachute games and film time.

As I said before there is both an indoor and outdoor swimming pool. These are both of a good size. The indoor has a large flume which the kids (and partner!) loved and the outdoor has special water features. Both are heated and there are good sized changing rooms to use. Both are lifeguard attended.

We also found evening entertainment to be very good. There is a bar and a good sized club house which is situated right next to a large playpark which is useful if the family has split opinions about what to do. The kids entertainment is centred around 2 chipmunks-Cyril and Cybil. The staff were very friendly and played a lot of games with the kids, there was also the opportunity to have your photo taken with Cyril and Cybil. There is also a small arcade area at Oakdene with various machines. Oakdene also houses a cafe which does good food at decent prices. There was a mix up with our food but we ended up with an extra meal so we cannot complain.

Forest Edge is situated just over the road from Hurn Forest so it is great for those who want to explore the forest or go for woodland walks. In the forest we saw a few horses. Please note camp fires are not allowed at Forest Edge.

We all really enjoyed our stay at Forest Edge because there was always something to do and something for everyone! We found the staff to be very polite and helpful and the facilities to be superb, especially for those with children. We are hoping to return to Forest Edge next month as it is a fantastic little break for everyone at a very low cost.

At peak times a minimum stay of 3 nights is required. Forest Edge is taking part in The Suns 'Camping for £1' offer.

Good review although I am a softie and I prefer my creature comforts these days.
