Advantages: Spacious, simple, cheap site

Disadvantages: Depends what your expectations are.

Gallowhill campsite in Kinross is simple but effective. We went in July, when the weather was fine during the day and downpouring from tea-time onwards but our kids had a ball. The campsite is cheap (2 adults for 11 quid and kids free under 7) and basic but with lots of space.

It is on a farm close to Milnathort and there is a decent shower block with all the usual amenities : showers, toilets, sinks, washing machine and tumble drier. It has a coded entry as people kept leaving with the keys even though they had to pay a deposit!

There is a small play park which our kids (5 and 7) were perfectly happy with even in the pouring rain with all their waterproofs on. The pitches weren't marked out as such and there was tons of room for your tent and car. Quite a few sturdy picnic benches were dotted around the field too which you could moe about for your conenience.

There were no strict rules like some sites have and the man, Steven, who dealt with us couldn't hae been friendlier.

We visited Kinross car boot sale (Saturday mornings - cheap and cheerful) and Kinross Market (Sunday mornings - cheap and cheerful) and probably a trip to one or t'other would have sufficed. Both families agreed that the best part of the trip was a walk round part of Loch Leven, in glorious sunshine where we saw the castle on the island, went in a bird hide and had a delicious coffee and cake stop.

A good trip for a quieter, simpler camping experience.

Summary: Cheap, spacious site - make your own fun.
