My partner took mr to Hales Hall Camping Park as a surprise one weekend, even though it is on the doorstep to us, it doesn't really matter where we are going when we are actually getting away for the weekend.
The site itself is pretty large and can easily cope with ample caravans with awnings and tents of all sizes, they also have an over flow field in which campers can go, and where they actually put larger parties which may make more noise than the norm to ensure that they do not disturb other visitors. Well behaved dogs are permitted, as long as they are kept control of, and also cleaned up after.
The site has quite large shower blocks which have just recently been refurbished, as I had been told that this particular site had been a little run down a couple of years ago, however new owners have taken over and since that renovated the site quite a bit. The toilet and shower blocks are very pleasant with fresh flowers put in there to brighten them up a bit and they are also very clean, I believe they shut them quite often to clean them and the floors had always just been mopped whenever I went into them which is great.
There is a small shop on the site, which is looked after by an old lady. If required she will cook you a full breakfast in the morning for a small fee, however you can obtain everything you need from the shop if you wish to cook your own, proper camping style. WE opted to cook our own fried breakfast, however did find that the bread was not fresh, it was good enough for toast, and fried bread however certainly not good enough to have a sandwich, so the shop doesn't seem to be stocked on a daily basis. Watch it if you squeeze the bread too, as I got told off by the old lady as she said I was hurting it.
There is also a pub on site which is great as not a lot of sites actually have them there. It reminded me of an old school and had a strange smell to it, and was definitely due for refurbishment however they did beer, and also a small amount of food which was reasonably priced and to be honest was actually very tasty.
There is a football pitch for the kids, and also a small playground with swing, slides, etc to keep them entertained, however there were loads of kids there, which were keeping each other entertained.
It cost 20 pound per night for the pitch and an extra 2 pound for Sandy, our dog per night which is actually quite expensive when you are just pitching a tent up. YOu can go a proper holiday park for less than that a night in other parts of the country.
It was nice for a break, however I don't think that we would return here, there are a few people that actually live there or go every weekend, and we got the impression that they thought they owned the site, which made it a little uncomfortable for people actually visiting the site for a short break. Think we will try somewhere else next time.
