International Festival of the SeaNewest Review: ... 24 and 27 after a three year absence - its maiden outing was hugely successful and earnt the city worldwide publicity. It won't return to the home of the navy for another three years. I went in 1998 and I still can't believe the ferocious Royal Marines unarmed combat display.(I don't think my CND t-shirt went down too well by the way!) Portsmouth is a mistake, a northern working city which set out its rough and ready stall on the moneyed south coast. To the west is Southampton, a leafy place which looks down its nose at its bustling urban neighbour; to the east is Brighton, a city too busy helping the police with their enquiries to take much notice of Pompey. ***NEWSFLASH NO 2*** For all you (not so) old new romatics out there, a treat is in store on Saturday 24th August 3 members of the original Spandau Ballet line-up will take to the stage in the dockyard arena.
