Advantages: lots to do and see
Disadvantages: lots of walking
This year was our first visit to a county show for a while. The show was very well organised. We were impressed by how the A road leading up to the showground was only for show traffic only.
As we arrived we were guided onto a field and shown where to park. There were flags telling you which row you were parked on so you could find your car later.
After we had parked we made our way to the entrance. There wasn't a big queue and we got in quickly. It cost £18 each I think but there was an oap and children rate. First impression after getiing in was that it was massive!
First stop was the flower displays where we ooohed, ahhed and admired the displays. Next it was onto where a few fairground rides were via a display of emergency services. We went on the big wheel (which was actually only a little one). My mum couldn't stop laughing all through the ride.
After this it was time to look at the vintage steam engines and classic cars. This then led up to the shopping area. This bit was huge! There was a variety of stalls and it was here that we spotted a glimpse of princess anne. To the back of the shopping area was the foodie bit and this area was very busy.
After eating we moved further around to the countryside area. Herewas falconery displays, archery, pig racing, a farm animals area, shooting range, blacksmith, army and navy displays plus more. Here there were also tents selling chickens and other birds.
Next to the countyside area was the livestock arena. This is where all the animals are judged. We had a walk round all the stalls and looked at which animals had won a prize.
Alongside the livestock area was the show jumping arena. Finally we wandered round the trade area. This was where all the big machinery was displayed.
After a long day it was now time to make our way to the exit and find our car before setting off home.
This year we were lucky that it was a georgous warm sunny day. The downside is there wasn't many toilets for the size of the show but the ones that were there were clean. There are plenty of places to grab something to eat. We had some very nice sandwhiches from a stall in the foodie area.
Well worth a visit if you haven't been before but be prepared to do some walking!
Summary: a great county show
