A cheap and fun way to keep children active

Lynx Gym Aylesbury Bucks Keeping Children Active Whilst Having Fun I am always on the lookout for new places to take my daughter which do not cost an arm and a leg and with the colder weather dominating England, inside places are high on my list. I would just like to note before I get into the review that although I will touch on the main gymnastics part of this centre, I am reviewing mainly the toddler fun time found at this gym as this is the part I take my daughter to and can not comment on other parts as we have never attending them. If you are after more information about the other parts then please follow the link to their website below; http://www.lynxgym.co.uk ********************** LYNX GYM ********************** Lynx Gymnastics Centre is situated in Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. The website is actually not very good with information and the first couple of times I went to this gym I got completely lost though you can find more in depth map directions when searching Google maps rather than only looking at their website. The Gymnastics Centre can be found at 70 Rabans Close (HP19 8RS) which is not too far from the main town centre, though is on a back road which makes it slightly more difficult to find if you don't know the area, and it does not help that there are no sign posts around. From the main High Street, follow the ring road round to the left and continue up Gatehouse Road, heading left onto Bicester Road. On about the 5th left hand turn you will find Rabans Lane. Head up this road until you see Rabans Close on your right. Turn down here and you will find the Gym on a small turn off on the left near the end of the road. Once here, there is quite sufficient parking though at busy times you may find that you have to park a way down the road. For the toddler fun times, though, I have always been able to find a space close to the Gym. The Gym is in a large warehouse with the reception area on entrance leading to a small changing area which has tables and chairs for snacks with the toilets on the other side. The toilets are rather small and there are often queues at busy times. The main Gym area is situated through some double doors - and this is huge! Lynx Gym is used by many different organisations for regular gymnastics classes. Some of the organisations include some well known names such as Mencap, Aylesbury Gymnastics Club, Harlequin School Of Gymnastics and many more so is well equipped in all the recognised gymnastic equipment. The whole floor is set in spongy soft flooring to prevent children getting hurt and around the whole room are such things as trampolines, balance beams, jumping horses, soft sponge pits etc. Also for the toddler play gym, a bouncy castle slide is paramount in the centre of the room with a swing hanging from the ceiling - high enough so not to knock into any young children. ********************* PLAY GYM ********************* There are three types of gym times; general gym, gymkins and play gym. For more information on times and classes please visit their website or give them a ring. For the purpose of this review, as mentioned, I am only reviewing the part we go to - the playgym. The Playgym is open to preschool children up to the age of five years old. All parents stay with their children and their children are the parents responsibility of course. The prices for the Playgym are very very reasonable starting from a free charge for babies who are not crawling to £3 for confident walkers. Do check these prices, though, as prices tend to change in time, though at these prices I feel very happy about going here. It is just unfortunate that it is about a half hour drive for me to get here so we don't get to go as often as I would like. The Playgym is open five days a week. Monday to Friday all have morning sessions between the hours of 9.30 to 11.45 with an afternoon session on Thursdays and Fridays between 1.00 and 3.00. Once you have paid to go in, you can stay for as long as you want. The price of entry also includes a free juice and biscuit for every child which is set out in the snack area around half an hour before closing times. This little snack is always a very welcome part with my daughter as she is often exhausted after running around, jumping and generally having fun. There is something for every aged child to do in the gym with different areas offering different equipment. When I first took my daughter, she had only just started crawling and was a little scared of the trampolines. There is one very long trampoline as well as a large square one which has a very high bounce to it - my brother in law has a lot of fun on this when he comes with us! Now, my daughter thoroughly enjoys the trampolines and has so much fun on the inflatable castle slide. This inflatable is very high and caution is needed whilst young children are climbing the side though even if they do fall, the ground will cushion them though I am one of those annoying overprotective mums and stand right near my daughter when she goes on this! There is a very deep pit of soft sponges which is very popular with my daughter and nephew though it is very deep and sometimes does scare them. Older children love jumping into the pits whilst my daughter prefers to throw the sponges around! Not only do the children have fun in this gym, they also stay active and learn some great things such as balancing. The trampolines are one aspect of teaching this, though there are also different balance beams all at different heights which my daughter loves walking along. She does not have the confidence yet to let go of my hand though she is getting there. There is so many more little parts to the gym which is difficult to mention them all here, though it is packed with fun activities for little gymnasts! I am even considering looking into proper gymnastics classes when my daughter is a bit older as she adores going here. Near the end of each play session, a member of staff comes in and puts some music on for the children to sing along to, play instruments and dance. This is a lovely ending to the session if you can pull your child away from the gym equipment! You can also book Lynx Gym for parties on a Saturday and Sunday though we have not done this yet. Parties are priced at £135 for a maximum of 25 children and includes an hour play time with food afterwards. ******************* CONCLUSION ******************* What better way for a child to learn and stay active than to take them somewhere where they have a whole lot of fun at a very reasonable price! My daughter absolutely loves going here and has done since she was about 5 months old. She is now two years old and straight away runs off to play in here now. It is a safe environment and teaches my daughter better balance and confidence and I fully recommend this to all parents in the area with children under the age of 5.
